Are Mormons told to follow their "prophets" no matter what? Yes.

Mormons are taught to "follow the prophet" no matter what.

"President Marion G. Romney tells of this incident, which happened to him: I remember years ago when I was a Bishop I had President [Heber J.] Grant talk to our ward. After the meeting I drove him home….Standing by me, he put his arm over my shoulder and said: “My boy, you always keep your eye on the President of the Church, and if he ever tells you to do anything, and it is wrong, and you do it, the Lord will bless you for it.” Then with a twinkle in his eye, he said, “But you don’t need to worry. The Lord will never let his mouthpiece lead the people astray.” [In Conference Report, October 1), p. 78]"

Here is more proof.

First, a video on the subject:

Examining the Mormon's Fourteen Fundamentals

And now for the entire list:

The 14 Fundamental Ways To Follow The Prophet of the Mormon Church

1. The prophet is the only man who speaks for the Lord in everything.
2. The living prophet is more vital to us than the standard works.
3. The living prophet is more important to us than a dead prophet.
4. The prophet will never lead the Church astray.
5. The prophet is not required to have any particular earthly training or credentials to speak on any subject or act on any matter at any time.
6. The prophet does not have to say “Thus saith the Lord” to give us scripture.
7. The prophet tells us what we need to know, not always what we want to know.
8. The prophet is not limited by men’s reasoning.
9. The prophet can receive revelation on any matter, temporal or spiritual.
10. The prophet may be involved in civic matters.
11. The two groups who have the greatest difficulty in following the prophet are the proud who are learned and the proud who are rich.
12. The prophet will not necessarily be popular with the world or the worldly.
13. The prophet and his counselors make up the First Presidency — the highest quorum in the Church.
14. The prophet and the presidency — the living prophet and the First Presidency — follow them and be blessed; reject them and suffer.

Thomas Monson is current President of the Council of Apostles and thus The Living Prophet. The website The Mormon Curtain (main page) has 2 articles on this

"“The ignorance on the part of writers who do not belong to us The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in relation to the views of the ‘Mormons’ on the status religiously or otherwise of the Negro is inexcusable. There is no doubt that in the campaign of George Romney enemies will play up the Negro question to the very limit."
"I would not want you to believe that we bear any animosity toward the Negro. ’Darkies’ are wonderful people, and they have their place in our Church."
“The Negro cannot achieve priesthood in the Mormon Church. No consideration is being given now to changing the doctrine of the Church to permit him to attain that status. Such a change can come about only through divine revelation, and no one can predict when a divine revelation will occur."
- Joseph Fielding Smith

8. And when one prophet makes a statement in conflict with that of prior prophets...

...they are told that the new prophecies are the ones they should follow. Because the new prophet has received different instructions from God. Not that the earlier prophets were wrong, they just had a different interpretation of God's word... er, I mean, God corrected his earlier statements... uh, God didn't correct himself, because God is never wrong, He just, um, clarified, yeah that's it, God clarified what he told the prophets many years ago.

Here's something else interesting. The leaders of the LDS church have instructed members that they are NOT to go searching for the golden tablets that Joseph Smith claimed to have translated that led to the Book of Mormon and the LDS church. I wonder why that is...

9. Why hasn't anyone created those golden tablets to help the Mormons learn the truth?

They should create a thousand different golden tablets.

The Mormon church has conveniently used "Modern Day Revelation" to twist out of many of its thorniest problems.

Now you know where Willard gets it from.

I think Romney's Mormonism scares me even more than his policies, if that's possible.

in the oath that Mormons have to take to access their temple.

Romney has temple access so his oath to follow the LDS President should be a major concern.
