However, getting it off Schedule 1 would be a GREAT, WONDERFUL, FANTASTIC start.

The thing about Clinton, though, is I don't think she would have taken this position without a compelling reason (like Bernie) attacking from the left. The reality is that there's lots of money, billions of dollars in fact, at stake in keeping marijuana illegal.

You have these giant law enforcement bureaucracies that actually are rewarded financially for pot busts. They DEFINITELY don't want any change.

Then there are the private prisons, which too often have contracts with feeder cities to keep them at 80% occupancy or above. Seriously. I mean, that is just SO wrong on so many levels it isn't even funny. And they only feed the prisoners twice a day because maintaining prisoners at a certain standard gets in the way of profits.

Of course, you also have big pharma which is worried that it won't sell as many opioids if marijuana is legal.

Then you have the DEA which has a huge budget, way too much power and way too little accountability and is increasingly militarized, almost totally so now.

You have big oil which is very jealous of anything that could cut into the profits they can still glean for another few years - I'm talking about hemp oil as fuel or hemp as biomass.

Not to mention the textile industry, particularly manufacturers of synthetic cloth. They don't want hemp introduced into their profit equation.

Let's not forget the big banks either. Someone has to launder the money drug cartels pull in. You think Citi and JP Morgan Chase aren't involved in that? LOL

So, yeah, kudos to Clinton, because she's adding to the pressure to take it off Schedule 1, which as I said would be great.

Oh, by way of edit...let's not forget those happy little forfeiture laws, either. Because lots of rural law enforcement depends on seizure to supplement budgets. And they do. These people have 'seizure fever' to the max. The horror of this is that they seize your stuff under civil law, so the burden of proof is on YOU, not the state. In court you must prove your property was not used in the commission of a crime. Again, wrong on so many levels, and also in direct violation of Amendments 4, 5, 8 and 14. Seriously.

But, hey, we can basically use the Bill of Rights as toilet paper nowadays with the exception of the 2nd Amendment. Of course, that's cause there's profit in them thar' guns!

The Third Wayers have no problems talking about everything and anything to get what they want. After that, they always find some excuse about how they "had" to sell out to those awful Republicans they saved us from.
