Bernie Sanders: Hillary Clinton Has 'Misstated' My Comments On Gun Control, Shouting

"The question is not shouting at each other."

Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders on Friday said his rival, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, had "misstated" his statement that people should stop "shouting" about gun control.

Clinton recently portrayed Sanders' comments as sexist. "I’ve been told to stop shouting about gun violence,” Clinton first said at the Democratic National Committee's Women's Leadership Forum in Washington. “Well I’m not shouting. It’s just when women talk, people think we’re shouting.”

Sanders has defended his comments, saying they weren't sexist. During MSNBC's Democratic Presidential Candidates Forum on Friday, he accused Clinton of "misstating" what he said.

"If we are going to make progress on this issue -- and I know Hillary Clinton has kind of misstated my view -- as a nation, we are going to have to stop shouting at each other and we're going to have to come together," Sanders said.

"The question is not shouting at each other. The question is bringing people together around proposals that I would guess 60 or 70 percent of the American people believe in," Sanders added.

distort another candidat's position on any issue, is just not smart. Besides she has all those secret think tanks doing the dirty work so why get into the frey like that?

If you can't laugh about the drama they tried to make of it, you just have no sense of humor.

Hell, I hope they were laughing when they posted the assorted butt threads. It was nice to get some levity around here, because it has been in short supply.

A Clinton supporter posted a diary about the picture portion of the Rachel interviews last night. He/She rightly pointed out that using a picture of Hillary and Bill instead of a picture of Hillary by herself doing one of her impressive things early in her life was demeaning to her (compared to Bernie and Martin's pictures which only involved them). Now THAT is a sexist concern I can wrap my head around.

And yes, I try to avoid the heated threads as I find them futile. Making each other laugh or even laughing at ourselves (which I can do daily) is a better use of time.

I would be enormously relieved if somebody could come up with gun violence proposals that appealed to the majority of citizens. I assume he's talking about expanded background checks and a couple other things he mentioned before. But it's time to get specific about what is possible, what will work, and what will not work.

And every single time he's said in the House, in the Senate, to a television camera, to a reporter, etc., it's been sexist and he's meant "shouting" very literally. Don't even try to deny it.

In football, "kicking butt" might be violent, but in most other sports it isn't. The only time it ever applies to individuals actually fighting with each other is in bars.
