Is Paul Ryan a Ticking Time Bomb as Mitt Romney’s Running Mate?

"SNIP.........................................

Romney insists the duo is running on his proposals, not his VP nominee’s. On Monday, he declined to discuss the differences between his Medicare plan and Ryan’s, saying, “We haven’t gone through piece by piece.” But that won’t wash. Even Fred Barnes, while praising the choice in The Weekly Standard, says: “Now Romney must actively promote and defend the Ryan plan. As of today, it’s the Romney plan.”

Then there is Ryan’s support for a “personhood” bill that would declare life begins at conception. Not a great help to a presidential candidate who wants to get rid of Planned Parenthood.

Ryan also has pushed to privatize Social Security, which George W. Bush, despite the congressman’s help, couldn’t even get to a vote. Think that will play well in Florida?

And as the Times noted, Ryan has voted against requiring more stringent background checks for buyers at gun shows, and against federal funding for NPR.

1. I think Ryan will crack under pressure

Much depends on how much is applied.

He will say something like "The President is trying to kill seniors, not me."

2. Romney appears to not stand up well to pressure either.

Could be a race ... who cracks first?

3. I don't think so--unfortunately

Ryan's selection is the ultimate concession to the Foxsuckers/Teabaggers. Unlike McCain's selection of Palin, it was not an act of hurried desperation, but of cold calculated numbers. Willard knew he would lose big, despite his Koch-a-cola money, if he couldn't draw in the frothing-at-the-mouth right somehow.

With Ryan, he has "salvaged" himself in their eyes. The far right figures that Ryan's presence would curb Willard's apathetic (and therefore possibly moderate) tendencies. He practically said so when he noted that he wasn't completely on the same page as Ryan with the economic plan. The one thing Willard probably DOES know how to do is crunch a few numbers, and if he did that, then he saw that Ryan's plan would turn our economy into that of a large third-world country in a decade. He is also sly enough to shut up about his knowing that until after the election, in case he should manage to steal it (he won't win it, but neither did Bush Lite).

One way or the other, Ryan gets muzzled after the election--ironically probably more so if he should become vice-president. He won't be relegated to Alexander Throttlebottom status, but not far from it.

4. He might be able to crunch numbers, but he also did a number on MA. I don't think he would

necessarily care about destroying our economy. He will do what ** did, which is continue to kick as much money to his 1% cronies as possible regardless of what happens to the rest of us down here.
