the paul ryan pick -- it's all about the benjamins
it's not about the small change that he'll make the difference in delivering wisconsin for the republicans.
it's about his fund-raising abilities.
he's become a darling of the right-wing and will help raise yet more cheddar for the republicans.
and this classic rmoney businessman thinking. he's out to buy the election. so the idea of getting a woman or a minority on the ticket, even in the typical, cynical, look-we-got-one-of-them-too republican way, doesn't really enter into the decision-making process.
he was looking for a rain-maker in order to buy votes and the election, and paul ryan fits the bill. plus, he's not as much of an emotional lightning rod as, say, chris christie, whose presence on the ticket might have helped democrats raise funds. paul ryan is a POLICY lightning rod, but not an emotional one, and emotions open wallets wider.
there's plenty of material for us to work with against ryan, but the bottom line is the bottom line. this pick will increase the financial gap between rmoney and obama and we need to hunker down for a long three months knowing we'll be markedly outspent.
