Labor union limits focus to 8 battleground states
By SAM HANANEL Associated Press WASHINGTON—One of the nation's most politically active labor unions plans to focus its resources on fewer states this year while working to help re-elect President Barack Obama. The Service Employees International Union said Tuesday it will target its massive field campaign on turning out voters in just eight battleground states—about half the number it focused on in 2008. At the same time, the 2.1 million-member union hopes to get 100,000 of its members to volunteer in its political program, twice as many as in the last presidential race. Overall, the union is expected to spend at least $85 million to help Obama win, similar to what it spent in 2008. "It's a matter of figuring out where we can have the greatest impact," said Brandon Davis, the union's national political director. "You'll see an expansion of what we're able to do on the ground by being more efficient with our resources." -snip- Read more: http://www.denverpost.com/colorado/ci_20890205/labor-union-limits-focus-8-battleground-states

We all agree that changing Congress is the long term solution, but keeping PBO in office will keep wolves at bay. Any state has a chance to swing a seat or two, so they should work on the local level to do that with all the resources they can muster. Won't fault SEIU for focusing their resources. We all have to make choices with our time and money. |

A union should use its assets where it sees fit.

5. The 50 State Strategy wasn't even a 50 State Strategy...

Do you really expect Obama and the unions to put their resources in states he has absolutely no chance of winning? Utah, Idaho, Wyoming - they're all going Romney by decisive numbers. Even in '08, Obama realized he couldn't play the entire field and instead focused on the crucial states: Ohio, Florida, Colorado, Nevada, Virginia & North Carolina.
Focusing on all 50 states would limit your resources and doom you to election defeat. |
