TPM: Report: Marco Rubio Not Being Vetted for VP Spot

(Also reported this morning on MSNBC's Morning Joe by Politico's Mike Allen.)

6:55 AM EDT, TUESDAY JUNE 19, 2012
Report: Marco Rubio Not Being Vetted For VP Spot

The Romney campaign is not vetting Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, reports ABC News. The campaign has not asked Rubio to complete any questionnaires or asked him to turn over any financial documents. Two months into the Romney campaignís vetting process, itís unlikely that Rubio has yet to be asked.

Though it now looks unlikely, the young, Hispanic senator from a crucial swing state is often touted by Republicans and the media as a likely VP pick.

1. ABC's Jonathan Karl says in the clip T-Paw is at the top of Romney's VP list.

Tim Pawlenty has been vetted for the position by the McCain campaign. He would be acceptable to the Teabagger wing of the party, and he's been very effect campaigning for Romney--aggressive and articulate. He also won't outshine Romney in the charisma department. Two vanilla beans in a pod.

6. IMO, Romney is a lot like Barrack Obama

in terms of style of campaigning.

Like BO's campaign did in 2008, they did the math, never got too high or two low, and rode it out.

Romney has done that.

I also think he tends to be a bit "no drama," too. I know people WANT to think he will make some wild VP pick, but I think it will be a safe choice like Pawlenty, or maybe someone from Ohio or Virginia if they think he can help them pick one of those states off.

But, I don't think he picks a wild eyed, flame throwing type of "teabagger."

3. He's 12 years old.

I saw him on television last night. I don't think he can even grow a beard yet. He's a cute kid, but way too young.

10. No they're not. The only reason Romney finally said that Rubio IS being vetted is because

he (or his campaign) realized if they let down so many RWers and Teabaggers and Cubans (especially in FL) by knowing Rubio isn't even being CONSIDERED, he'll be even worse off with them than he already is.

12. To think you don't believe he only said that after NOT saying it during all the chances he had

throughout the day for any other reason than to not disappoint those who want Rubio to be VP is puzzling. It has nothing to do with TPM. It's common sense.

15. Lawrence O'Donnell seems to agree with me. He'll be covering this story tonight. He just

said that Romney was in full damage control 11 hour after ABC ran the story about Romney NOT being vetted and after Jeb Bush saying the non-vetting of Rubio was a big dis to the Cuban-American community. Sure enough, Romney had to do manage control and SAY Rubio is being vetted.
