Top conservative says read my lips: Don’t sign ‘no new tax’ pledge By Jonathan Karl, Richard Coolidge, Gregory Lemos & Sherisse Pham Video @ link~ As a conservative Republican, Lindsey Graham has never had a problem promising not to raise taxes. Like almost every other Republican member of Congress, during his last re-election campaign, he signed the anti-tax pledge put forth by Grover Norquist's group Americans for Tax Reform. But now Graham says the debt crisis is so severe that the tax pledge — which says no tax loopholes can be eliminated unless every dollar raised by closing loopholes goes to tax cuts -- has got to go. snip// This puts Graham at odds with his party's leadership. Just last August, when the eight Republican presidential candidates were asked if they would reject a deal with $10 in spending cuts for every $1 in revenue, all eight said they would walk away. But Graham is now raising his hand for increased revenues — he says he could support a plan that included $4 in spending cuts for every $1 in increased tax revenue. "We're so far in debt, that if you don't give up some ideological ground, the country sinks," said Graham.

1. wow, maybe we are getting somewhere then.
|
This will cause a huge fight with the Tea Party. It is also against their presidential nominees statements (however, we know he can always do another flip flop).

12. All republiCONs are trying to move to the center now.
|
The last thing centrist repubs want is for the far right Tparty faction to tank the economy and credit rating of the US at year end. Also they know that they have to appear to be more moderate now, for the general election in Nov. Vote a straight Democratic ballot.

9. Never. Grover is basically a bully and needs to be confronted.
|
He may be able to take out a congressman in some backwater hell hole, but not a red senator in a red southern state.

3. Imagine that....
|
he's actually making noises about the country being more important than his idiot fucking ideology.
Kind of sad, really. He might get enough moderate/blue dog votes with comments like that to get re-elected and continue to carpet bomb the country. Went all the way down to 4/1 for cuts/revenue, eh? I say we tell him to fuck off and go for 1/1. |

5. Also, The Devil is in the Details
|
He probably wants the 4x in cuts to be all in social programs and all the 1x in revenue for the military. That is a deal breaker for me personally, however, they could probably get enough Democrats to push that through the Senate.

14. Also, the funds cut should be proportional
|
South Carolina is an exceptionally large recipient of federal largesse. If Senator Lindsey wants so many cuts, he should start with the Sandlapper state, because it gets far more than its fair shgare from Washington.

7. The more division in the Republicans the better for us
|
What I would love is to see is such infighting that they really split. One the Republican party similar to the one of many years ago and one far to the right.
This would hopeful divide their vote and the money. |

8. If Obama wins, they will split.
|
There will be so much navel gazing and self important posturing, and mainstream media hangin on every thought, I will puke.
To the almost irrelevance of Dems agenda. So as to smash any political capital he might possess. |

10. Lindsey Graham should be admired for standing up to speak the truth.
|
It is going to take more strong people standing up for the truth to get this country back on track. It will never happen with Boehner wimping out and crying and not facing the truth. If Grover is going to call all the shots he needs to pay the salaries and expenses of the wimps he has gotten to sign his pledge. He is only one and can not vote but the one time, forget about him.

the republican party is going to split...I just hope its before the election! the left needs a landslide, a electoral shift for once! |
