Obama's Terrible Month

It can only get better (I hope):

It has been a Junius Horribilis for President Obama.

Job growth has stalled, the Democrats have been humiliated in Wisconsin, the attorney general is facing a contempt-of-Congress citation, talks with Pakistan have broken down, Bill Clinton is contradicting Obama, Mitt Romney is outraising him, Democrats and Republicans alike are complaining about a “cascade” of national-security leaks from his administration, and he is now on record as saying that the “private sector is doing fine.”

For the White House, it was just the latest entry in the when-it-rains-it-pours ledger. This has been one of the worst stretches of the Obama presidency. In Washington, there is a creeping sense that the bottom has fallen out and that there may be no second term. Privately, senior Obama advisers say they are no longer expecting much economic improvement before the election.

5. true, but I'm also concerned about Obama being stuck in the mid 40's

it is not the challenger who has to worry about being at 50% at this point, but more the incumbant. But I heartily agree with you (and Carney) that the media has not been doing it's job and Romney has been getting away with murder while there has been a pile on President Obama. In their wanting to keep the horse race close the media may allow Romney to win.

13. I see what you're saying, but understand that there are ebbs and flows during an election

season. The good news is that few people are paying attention. If this is a "bad month" in September or October, then there is cause for worry. But, really, the Corporate Media is manufacturing stories that don't really exist. It is up to us not to allow the tripe to get to us or demoralize us. That's what they want: for the Republicans to be energized and Democrats to be demoralized. Don't let it happen. You're a good Democrat, WI_DEM.

6. He's not my favorite columnist but there can be no sugar coating that it

hasn't been a favorable month so far for the administration. I hope that the snippit about job numbers will be wrong and we will see some productive months before the election.

8. Milbank is deliberately "shit-coating" things. Look at the phrases he uses

"the Democrats have been humiliated in Wisconsin" - Walker spent 30 million dollars to eke out a victory.

"Democrats and Republicans alike are complaining about a “cascade” of national-security leaks from his administration" - I can name the Republicans, can he name the Democrats? He acts as it if has been PROVEN that the leaks came from the admin. I can think of NO LOGICAL REASON why the Obama admin would leak the existence of FLAME. It doesn't make sense, so I doubt it is true.

"he is now on record as saying that the “private sector is doing fine" You and I know what Obama meant. So does Milbank. Yet he heaps up on the Republican talking points and runs with it.

"In Washington, there is a creeping sense that the bottom has fallen out and that there may be no second term." Who believes this? Does it matter to the country whether this un-named group of people in Washinton believe this? Is Milbank fabricating this?

On and on he goes, repeating the talking points and half-truths, and using the most negative of adjectives to spin spin spin.

7. this is beautiful!

a "terrible" month that has no negative story with any legs at all.

lowers expectations and sets the narrative for a stronger rest of the campaign. once the campaign shows any sign of strength, the "terrible" month will be quickly forgotten, other than as a backdrop to how impressive the obama campaign has become.

9. Obama really need to talk to REAL middle class Americans.

Obama needs to get out here and get his hands dirty. He is NOT feeling the pain that many in this country are feeling, otherwise he wouldn't have come close to saying what he said about the economy---gaffe or not.

Talk to some unemployeds, fired, foreclosed, no healthcare types and start from there....

11. He did address those things in the presser.

But then again, I actually watched it. I'm not counting on Faux news to tell me what he said. Perhaps you should watch it too?

14. He has been going around the country talking to ordinary working class Americans.

Just because the Corporate Media doesn't cover these events, doesn't mean that it doesn't happen!!!

Either pay attention or educate yourself about what is really going on.

12. More crap from the WaPo.

While it's true that there have been some setbacks this month it's nowhere near as bad as the WaPo makes it sound.

15. I don't get how Wisconsin was a "humiliation" for President Obama (or the Democrats in general)

It's not very likely Wisconsin is going to roll over for Mitt in November just because Wisconsin refused to recall Walker. It's also not the "death knell" for public sector unions that Republicans like Mitch Daniels are claiming it to be. It was a RECALL election, not a *normal* election and more people than not voted against recalling Walker on principle- because they didn't like the recall- not because they thought Walker was peachy and/or hated unions.
