(45,251 posts)If Santorum wants respect with his extreme religious right views, he might get it pastoring an extreme religious right church. He is not going to get it in the White House, even from his own party.

(9,257 posts)He and his views became a laughingstock here in PA where he lost his 2nd bid for Senate reelection (to Bob Casey) by the biggest % in state history IIRC. The radio ads pronounced him "Too Extreme for Pennsylvania"--a stroke of brilliance, implying that he might not be too extreme for, say, Alabama, but that kind of woman-hating stuff isn't going to fly here.
More recently he offered to donate his "papers" to his alma mater, Penn State, and they respectfully declined.

(28,394 posts)He has a child with a rare genetic disorder who was not expected to survive. He wrote a tear-jerker book about her and is out promoting it now, just in time to get himself back on TV before another presidential bid.
Disgusting to exploit his family like this, IMO. I don't question his love for his daughter, but the timing is offensive and blatant.

(94,359 posts)Yes, he was a nutty Republican, but he was able to give coherent answers as to why he held his positions, and he was willing and able to engage with people who disagreed with him.
