Using LV samples in polls this early is not a good idea

(LV=likely voters).

This may be the reason why Conservative Hack Rasmussen is coming up with such ridiculous pro-Romney numbers. According to Pollster.com founder Mark Blumenthal, in 2008,:

"It is also important to note that these are LV screens employed at the end of a campaign, not in the middle of the summer, when it is presumably more difficult to distinguish LVs."

And it's not even summer yet. We are technically in the Spring season, which makes Rasmussen (and all pollsters who are using LV's right now) the more idiotic.

Rasmussen is slick. Gallup uses LV at the very end of the campaign only.

It's also worth nothing that the difference between LV and RV, among an average of 8 major pollster was less than 2% in 2004 (See the link above); so by claiming that Romney leads Obama by 8% among "LV" as I type this, Rasmussen implies that he also leads Obama by several points among registered voters, which is not corroborated by anyone else.

I predict that Rasmussen is going to suck in 2012 as much as he sucked in 2010, when he was extremely biased towards Republicans, and was the worst pollster in Nate Silver's list. http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/04/rasmussen-polls-were-biased-and-inaccurate-quinnipiac-surveyusa-performed-strongly/
