Lupica: Gov. Chris Christie wants public to believe he's innocent in Bridgegate

By Mike Lupica
3/27/14

In something less than one of those shocking March Madness upsets you get in college basketball, lawyers hired by the Chris Christie administration have completely exonerated Chris Christie in Bridgegate.

In something almost as predictable, just as a way of Christie changing the subject a little, the report also details a relationship between Bridget Anne Kelly, Christie’s fired chief of staff, and Bill Stepien, his former campaign manager. So they are clearly dirty and bad. The governor is not only good, he’s better than ever.

This was called an internal investigation, and you can’t get more internal than this outside of a doctor’s office. But you better believe it says exactly what the governor of New Jersey has been saying for months, just in much more painstaking detail:

They did it!

.........

And it isn’t supposed to matter, as we’re all presented a self-serving document like this, one written for suckers, that Christie's lawyers did not talk to the following people:
- Kelly
- Wildstein
- Stepien
- Bill Baroni

I don't believe that Chris Christie gives the southern most end of a north bound rat if the public believes he's innocent.
What is important to Chris Christie is that innocent or not, Sheldon Adelson believes that Christie is HIS best choice while being the most electable candidate.
What is important to Sheldon Adelson; what is important to Charles and David Koch is that Chris Christie is a highly electable candidate that will faithfully represent their best interests.
What will then remain to be seen is if Chris Christie can show himself to be "good christan" enough to to justify the investment of the Mega Churches.

If Christie can win this trifecta then he will have effectively "blocked the bridge" for other potential employees seeking the GOP nomination.

His personality is very abrasive. Besides, his cronies exonerated him, but the real investigations are still going on. Who knows what they might find?

Unfortunately that is what the Teabulican rank and file have been trained to believe is leadership.
Teapublicans will tolerate naked hikes, long flights on the taxpayer's dime to visit a mistress, diapers and yes even outright corruption.
What is important is that their 'great champion' has a mean streak a mile wide that can somehow allow them to feel superior to someone.
Ironic, isn't it? Teapublicans seek a 'strong' leader to shelter them from the fear their own party is so willing to sell them.
