Scott Walker's coyness about his political ambitions will have to take a back seat this week when he and three other presidential aspirants head to Las Vegas for the "Sheldon Primary."
That's what many are calling the spring meeting of the Republican Jewish Coalition at The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino, owned by casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson.
"Certainly the Sheldon Primary is an important primary for any Republican running for president, former White House press secretary and current RJC board member Ari Fleischer told the Washington Post. It goes without saying that anybody running for the Republican nomination would want to have Sheldon at his side.
An anonymous "senior" Republican strategist told the Post that the presidential hopefuls "are just falling at his feet.
Its a bunch of people out scrounging for the same dollars, and Sheldon represents the largest or second-largest box of money, the strategist said...
...He doesnt want a crazy extremist to be the nominee, Adelson friend Victor Chaltiel told the Post. He wants someone who has the chance to win the election, who is reasonable in his positions, who has convictions but is not totally crazy.
Besides Walker, the lineup of non-crazies this week includes former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

OP
Sheldon Adelson himself is crazy! Notable that this is stated as one of their top criteria!

(8,379 posts)1. He wasted $150 million in 2012.
No republican is going to be elected president. You hear me? None. The party is too fractured, the crazies won't vote for a moderate, the moderates won't vote for a crazy.

Amongst current rethugs, he doesn't have that option, just picking the least crazy extremist...

They can set a new record for money wasted in GOP primaries
