Democrats' 2014 Get-Out-The-Vote Efforts

Today's article in the L.A. Times makes interesting reading. I've been scanning tea party blogs lately and there are some more pragmatic suggestions being said as well, such as toning down the inflammatory rhetoric working with the Republican Party establishment to take the Senate away from the Democrats this year.

While Obamacare is a good law, the rollout of the Obamacare website was an embarrassment. We got a huge break in October when the tea party forced the government shutdown as it took the public's attention away from the healthcare.gov website's problems. But the tea party seems to have learned from that mistake, and we cannot rely on them making fools of themselves to rally support for our side.

Arguing that the Affordable Care Act is a good law is pointless now. We need to get the law firmly entrenched in America's infrastructure that it will simply not be possible for any future Congress or president to repeal or undermine it. The only way that can happen is for the Democrats to stay in power.

While I'm now pretty much convinced that liberals & moderates have a slight majority over conservatives on the national level, I'm concerned about Democrats' motivation to get out and vote this year. Too many of us stayed home in the 2010 midterms with catastrophic consequences. We have numerous seats we need to defend this November in red states: Arkansas, Louisiana, North Carolina, Montana, West Virginia, and South Dakota. Michigan and Iowa are promising to be competitive as well. How is the Democrats' GOTV machine looking for 2014?

That should be the focus of getting the Democrats out to vote. Explain and remind them of what happened in 2010 and how it has ruined the United States. I think that is one of the ways to help get the vote out. Plus those red state Senators who are Democrats need to own their vote on Obamacare. Explain to them why this was a great vote and find constituents who have been helped by the vote. Nothing worse than a Democrat without principles. They will be reelected if they are forthright and honest….they were elected at least once already. Don't underestimate the voting public of that particular state and trust them to have the United States and their state above all else.
