Ron Paul still in the race with millions in funding and zero debt

First Rick Santorum slipped out of the race for the GOP nomination, and next Newt Gingrich said he would support Romney but would still run. But what about Ron Paul’s quest for the White House?

According to the latest bulletin from the campaign headquarters of the Texas congressman, Ron Paul is still in the race and rolling in the bucks.

Republican Party presidential hopeful Ron Paul is still polling strong among many demographics and shows no sign of slowing down. At least if his bank records have anything to do with it. The candidate’s camp announced on Friday that so far in 2012 his campaign has managed to bring in almost $10.4 million in contributions from donors determined to keep the congressman in the GOP race.

Those funds won’t be funneled to pay off earlier spending, either. His officials say that in addition to the big bucks that came in for the first quarter, the Ron Paul campaign has zero debt at this point in the race. Compare that to Republican Party rival and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich who was reportedly in the hole to the tune of $4.5 million last week, according to an article published by Slate.

As Ron Paul and Gingrich are now left as the only viable Republican alternative to Mitt Romney, Gingrich’s chances might soon run dry as his pocketbook does the same. Will Paul have a chance to pull through against the frontrunner, though?

1. So, Ron Paul is just in it for the money

Slow and steady, little advertising, buncha speeches, and his campaign funds grow. He's got a different appeal in Wingnutlandia than Nutty Newtie, Sister Sarah, Crazy Eyes, or Spurting Santorum. As such, he has to know he won't get the big donors, but he can still rack up money.

2. He could still run 3rd party - I wouldn't put it past him.

I would think the republican higher ups would put some pressure on him, but he seems to do what he wants. May be interesting ...

5. He can but I don't think he will.

I think he'd be afraid that doing so would hurt his idiot son's future possibilities for a place on the national ticket.

PEACE!

7. He is 100 percent a politician

as much as his fans adore him and revel in the fantasy that he is some high minded idealist, this is all one big game for him. He gets to give speeches, jet all over the country, have his fans fawn all over him, all on the money they give him for his campaign.

I had thought a few years ago he might finally make good on his teasing to go third party in a presidential this go around.

BUT, I think you are absolutely right, that he won't do it because of Rand.

12. Ron Paul is no threat to Mitt Romney

Ron Paul is no threat he has not won a single state. Mitt's people could care less if Ron Paul stays in or gets out.

Anarchists prefer collectivist rule over government rule.

9. Lately a lot of amateurish looking Ron Paul for President signs have been going up

Like just now, which is odd timing, since Mittens has it almost wrapped up. So maybe the third party theory is true.

18. It fits in with the faux-grassroots/outsider/populist/occupy movement

I live in a big Paulite area and will see old spraypainted bedsheets hung from highway overpasses and rudimentary wooden sign in yards...Don't his campaign acolytes realize how laughably low-rent and amateurish it makes him look? He's running for goddamned POTUS, not homecoming king!

In '08 they even had homeless guys at busy intersections holding Paul signs (one of them was even quoted in the paper)...Classy...

11. Ron Paul's campaign is proof positive how dumb libertarians are...

They're throwing how much money to keep his campaign alive and what are they getting out of it? He's not won ONE fucking primary. I would be pissed if I gave a thousand dollars to a candidate and he didn't do squat shit with my money. What has Paul done? He's irrelevant, even when every candidate drops out.

Could you imagine his presidency? He'd take all our money, cut programs, lower taxes for the wealthy and we'd still get stuck paying for, and getting absolutely nothing - just like his campaign.

Unlike Palin, who is an amateur grifter, Paul shows us how a professional does it.

24. A Libertarian running with Republicans - what a scam

Regardless what you think of Libertarianism, I think him running as a Republican was a joke. I totally understand why he did it - he got attention for it (hell, we are taking about him, aren't we), but he didn't get my respect when he did this. If you are a libertarian, run as one.

28. I question Ron Paul's credentials as a libertarian.

This has been bugging me for a long time. How can he call himself a libertarian while opposing gay rights and abortions? Furthermore, why is it that we haven't heard a peep from him regarding millions of people being deprived of the right to vote via ID laws? Libertarians should be among the main people fighting against those laws, considering their platform is advocation of personal liberty. I'm glad Lawrence O'Donnell called him out on a while ago.
