A personal non-scientific analysis: Eyeballing the ages of the GOP presidential candidates

Okay so, looking at ‘recent’ history it seems to me that since our last three presidents were all under the age of 55 when they were sworn into the office of the presidency the majority of the 2012 GOP presidential candidates are more suited for a rocking chair on their front porch than they are for the Oval Office.

John McCain (August 29, 1936) was 72 years old when he ran against Barack Obama in 2008 and we all know how that went.

If the GOP nominee ends up being Newt Gingrich it will look somewhat like a replay of the McCain run - an older white male with white hair. I personally have absolutely NOTHING what so-ever against older white men with white hair, that is if they are Democrats.

Probably if the Republican Party was smart they’d go with Rick Santorum, but we all know that the majority of the Bat-Shit-Crazy-Party doesn't rate very high on the ‘smart meter’ lately.

Just my two cents

Standing in a line several years long. Naturally you get old standing in it.

regarding not electing someone too old for the job considering reports came out that said Reagan had Alzheimer's disease while still in office.
I would think that that would be a good enough reason in itself to shy away from nominating someone that should be in retirement and not in the oval office.

"Doesn't have Alzheimer's" seems not to be high on the list of "must haves" for GOP candidates.

If you look at the chart here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Presidents_of_the_United_States
at the list of U.S presidents - starting at the bottom of the list going upwards - the majority of the time each 'newer' president has a 'born date' which is less than their predecessor - there are a couple exceptions but not many and when there is a difference it is only a couple of years (except for of course Lyndon B. Johnson who was the vice-president when JFK died and therefore he was NOT a directly elected president).

but they didn't go so well. The first Harrison, who lasted only a month, was a full nine years older than the departing Van Buren. Zachary Taylor, who lasted a year and a quarter, was 13 years older than Polk. And James Buchanan was 13 years older than Pierce. I was surprised that Truman was actually 6 years older than Ike. I had thought Ike was older.
