Michigan Democratic convention this Saturday

Seems to be a battle for state chair this year. Long time chair Mark Brewer is being challenged by new comer Lon Johnson. Johnson has the support of both federal Senators from Michigan and most if not all elected state officials. Brewer a seasoned veteran has the support of many local party members. Inside stories indicate Brewer has been there too long, he has presided over the party while it became less and less powerful in this state. And it is time for a change. Johnson who only became a member of the party a few years ago, is reported to be a possible opportunist who is only seeking to increase his personal goals. It has also been said that Johnson may just be a puppet of UAW president Bob King. Anyway, it should be an interesting convention come Saturday.
any and all opinions welcome.

1. actually plenty of room and work for both politicans in the michigan democratic party.

Let's hope they don't burn any bridges druring their campaigns. Brewer did work very hard recently, for democrats during the election campaigns vs Romney.

Electing a less experienced person who did not seem to campaign against romney seems like it would make the michigan democratic position weaker, not stronger.

2. Get out the popcorn? Probably time for a change...but will there be?

Labor groups split, Brewer still has a lot of support, not sure how many people really care about the congressional delegations views....

I just don't know..

3. Based on Johnson's bio and what I know about King there is no puppeteering going on.

Besides the UAW, the Steelworkers and Teamsters support him. The guy has been involved in campaigns across the country.

How can anyone say that Johnson will be a puppet of the UAW when Brewer worked with the UAW too?

5. I'm inclined to go with Jonhson

some say that this is the UAW trying to deflect blame over putting money into Prop 2 and not state legislative races. That may be the case, but would a different chair have made a difference in them making that decision? Honestly I don't know. I do know Brewer's record was sketchy even before this, year. I'll say whatever happens, this is going to be BY FAR the most interesting convention I've ever been to, it's going be an epic shit show. Someone needs to put bar on the floor, the only thing that'll make this more fun is booze.
