Huckabee: Obama Should Pardon Pollard During Visit

US President Barack Obama should announce the release of Jonathan Pollard during his upcoming visit to Israel as a way to win over the Israeli people, former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee said Monday.

Huckabee, here leading some 200 Christian evangelicals to Israel, said such a move would be “cathartic moment in the relationship between Israel and the US", and signal an extraordinary sense of good will on part of us and the Obama Administration.

“I don’t think there is a price to be paid politically for the president in the United States for that, but there would be enormous benefit in terms of relationship with Israelis for him to make that announcement just prior to his coming, or even while he is here," he said

Huckabee, who ran an unsuccessful presidential race in 2008 and is now a popular conservative television and radio host, said he hoped the president “reassures the people of Israel that there is absolutely no way that America will stand by and let Iran develop a nuclear weapon., He needs to say that loudly, clearly and without equivocation.”

4. What if Pollard was a Muslim who stole the same US secrets for Turkey

Turkey is one of our allies and a member of NATO. Would right wingers like Huckabee call for his release? Hell no! They would call for execution.

6. American civilian intelligence analysts are not allowed to pass on classified info.

Huckabee should understand that simple fact.

He could try to see if the law that mandates life in federal prison be reduced to 20 years or so, especially if ALL the classified information Pollard has known is outdated.

The Fundy and Israeli supporters of Pollard need to stop this shit.

8. He's got 2 years and 9 months left

He clearly was spying for Israel at the behest of their government. Make him do the time and finish his sentence. The article on Wikipedia says he'll be sent back to Israel after he finishes his sentence.

Certainly several other presidents could have pardoned him. He's been in prison since 1987, so we've had four presidents prior to Obama who could have pardoned him and chose not to (Reagan, Bush I, Clinton, Bush II).

10. Absolutely not

Bad enough he'll be getting out of jail in a couple of years. Should be dying there. Average citizens do not get to decide what is confidential or secret. Bradley Manning is about to find that out also.

11. Best piece of advice (from me):

Don't take any advice from Huckabee!
