Ashley Judd Responds To Crossroads Ad

PEMA LEVY 4:16 PM EST, WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 6, 2013

Responding to a new ad campaign against her, actress and potential Senate candidate Ashley Judd thanked conservative super PAC American Crossroads on Wednesday for "all the attention" in a statement from her publicist, the Washington Post reports. Judd is mulling a run against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

“Ashley thanks Senator McConnell, Karl Rove, and their negative allies for all the attention as she considers her future political plans, although a decision hasn’t been made yet," the publicist wrote in an email.

American Crossroads is putting $10,000 behind the ad, which paints Judd as a Hollywood liberal who calls Tennessee -- not Kentucky -- her home.

American Crossroads Goes After Ashley Judd With $10,000 Ad Campaign (VIDEO)

TOM KLUDT 8:48 AM EST, WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 6, 2013

The conservative super PAC American Crossroads on Wednesday rolled out an attack ad preemptively aimed at Ashley Judd, who is reportedly mulling a U.S. Senate bid against Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) next year in Kentucky.

Behind $10,000 in digital advertising starting today, the Karl Rove-backed group will run the ad in Kentucky in two weeks. The ad — a parody of a would-be campaign spot for Judd — mocks the actress and activist for her allegiance to President Barack Obama and for previously referring to Tennessee as her home. American Crossroads detailed the campaign in an email sent out Wednesday morning.

1. Their desperation is showing.

Goodness - going after her before she's even decided whether or not she will run. If they continue this paranoia, maybe they will go bankrupt going after all who would even consider running against them.

The stupid...it just burns!

2. Is that a FEC legal ad?

She is not a candidate nor is it an issue ad.

3. I believe it's legal

Her status as a candidate is not relevant. They could put out an ad against you or me if they wanted.

5. I dunno...

It demonstrates that somebody's getting a little nervous. And the sooner they get the bogus attacks out of the way, the less they'll have for when the election begins.

6. One only attacks that which one fears

If they are going after Judd, they must think she can put up some decent numbers in Kentucky against McConnell, otherwise why are they afraid of her?

7. I love her response.

That ad makes me like her even more. Let's see, she supports healthcare reform (Obamacare). I think that's a good thing. She campaigned for Obama. That's a plus. She's "delightfully radical." There is no context there but if she is radical in support of women's reproductive rights then that's another plus. Who cares where she makes her home if she is the far better candidate? I hope she runs and wins.
