Obama aides talk sequester with defense contractors

David Jackson 1:44p.m. EST February 6, 2013

President Obama's staff is looking for political support in the upcoming sequester battle, and White House aides met Wednesday with defense contractors who would be affected by the series of major budget cuts.

The aides included senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, National Economic Council director Gene Sperling, budget director Jeff Zients, and top economist Alan Krueger.

The contractors included officials with Northrop Grumman Corporation, Pratt and Whitney, BAE Systems, Inc., and the Aerospace Industries Association.

"The focus of the conversation was the potential devastating impacts of the sequester going into effect," said White House spokesman Jay Carney.

3. If they don't want the full hammer dropped on them, they'll kick the obstructionists in the shins.

I do want them to experience a serious amount of financial loss, if they insist on supporting the libertarians and baggers who want to steal from everyone and never pay their taxes.

The best thing is if they present their plan to Obama how they can restructure their manufacturing and knowledge base to something productive for people and not just profits. Green energy, infrastructure and communications need the expertise they've wasted on destructive purposes.

America isn't ready to lose a high paying manufacturing base, but the emphasis on making war is something America and humanity can't afford no matter who squeals in D.C. We have huge challenges facing us and geniuses who are currently being focused on the wrong things.

They can address climate change and pollution with the knowledge they have. Just because the owners of the fossil fuel energy have been pursuing the wrong path for so long, doesn't mean they are going to go away.

Harness them in the service of mankind, not just themselves. They can do it.
