Electoral rigging: "Now is not the right time"

Michigan governor Snyder said about the idea of rigging the electoral college so that it reflects congressional district votes (which would favor Republicans big time), not state votes, that "Now is not the right time." It's my feeling that many Republicans are opposing this right now because they know that in two years there will be a lot of local elections, where Republicans, if they over-reach, could lose control of their legislatures. My guess is that after those elections, the electoral college rigging scheme will resurface. I think 2014 will be the most important year for local elections in modern times. Let's hope the Democrats are ready.

1. "Now is not the time"

Well, that's hardly reassuring. Translation: "We're not going to cheat now. We'll just wait until nobody's watching (or we don't have to stand for re-election anytime soon) and THEN do it!" We need to make damned sure we get our voters to the polls in 2014 so that they don't have another opportunity to rig them right before the Presidential election in 2016. Remember, most of the voter ID and other disenfranchisement laws didn't get enacted until 2011 and then we (barely) had any time to challenge them in the courts and get things in order to fight them before the 2012 election and, based on the evidence, we still lost a lot of would-be voters to disenfranchisement (i.e. Florida).

3. ... or, "just cuz we say we're not going to cheat now, doesn't mean we won't" ...

Pay no attention to what we're really doing behind the scenes, people!

2. we better be ready...

The fact that the repubs could pull this off has shaken what little confidence I have left in this system. The election could be effectively rigged and we would all just roll over and take it ; becausethe system is too corrupt.
Makes me wonder if there ever was a Democracy here to begin with .....
