Obama's popularity rising
A new Pew Research survey finds President Obama's approval rate at 52%, his highest since the early months of his presidency. "His personal favorability, currently 59%, has rebounded from a low of 50% in the fall campaign. And increasing percentages describe him as a strong leader, able to get things done and as someone who stands up for his beliefs."
Meanwhile, the Republican Party's image, "which reached a recent high of 42% favorable following the GOP convention this past summer, has fallen once again to a low of just 33%. Much of this decline has come among Republicans themselves."

4. Obama
|
Obama is cool. I hate it when Republicans stand there with a straight face and say: "Dubya was better!", and I just have to go: "Fuck off, you don't know what the heck you are talking about!" If you think Bush is better than Obama, you obviously are braindead, and a complete idiot.

5. I know what you mean
|
In a particularly bad moment, I blew up at a right wing freak who said such a thing. I point blank asked what would be "better" than the first 2 years of Obama. He said something about taxes and I had to point out that Obama had lowered them, did he think Bush would have lowered them further? He said something about freedoms and I pointed out that Obama had expanded peoples right to carry arms in National Forests. Did Bush ever do that? He mumbled something about war and I mentioned that Obama had tripled our commitment in Afghanistan, did he really think Bush would have? The guy finally just mumbled something about "it'd be better" and walked.

All the reasons I get pissed at Obama are all the reasons you should LIKE Obama and yet you don't like him anyway. Bottom line is that republicans don't like Obama because he calls himself a democrat.

Ignorance has kept back humanity for thousands of years, having to deal with the hardcore repubs at my work talking about how facist Obama is stealing their money and taking away their guns without an ounce of proof is saddening. I can't help but feel the stupid people are breeding, and one day life will become Idiocracy.

One hit wonderish song from Harvey Danger in late 90's. What's funny is I happened to look him up today but when i posted that I was thinking of a song called The Decline by NoFX. Below are a few passages that resonate so strongly today.
Where are all the stupid people from? And how'd they get to be so dumb? Bred on purple mountain range Feed amber waves of grains To lesser human beings, zero feelings Father what have I done? I took that .22 A gift to me from you To bed with me each night Kept it clean Polished it well Cherished every cartridge, every shell Down, by the creek, under brush, under dirt There's a carcass of my second kill Down, by the park, under stone, under pine There's a carcass of my brother William Brother where, have you gone to? I swear, I never thought I could I see so many times They told me to shoot straight Don't pull the trigger, squeeze That will insure a kill A kill is what you want A kill is why we breed The Christians love their guns The church and NRA Pray for their salvations Prey on the lower faiths Jerry spent some time in Michigan A twenty year vacation, after all he had a dime A dime is worth a lot more in Detroit A dime in California, a twenty dollar fine |

but the best I can ever come up with, "While ultimately proven misguided, he DID try to address education with NCLB." I can never get ANYTHING from a Republican that doesn't frame it as, "He didn't do what Obama did like with blah, bah, blah."

"Bush's approval rating is at 49 percent in the AP poll with 49 percent disapproving among all of those polled. His job approval is in the high 40s or low 50s in several other recent polls — as low as any job approval rating for a re-elected president at the start of the second term in more than 50 years." |

15. it sometimes gets forgotten: Americans like leaders who act like alphas
|
They respond favorably to leaders who Behave As If They Are In Charge. They like Winners. Obama is starting to act like he's in charge, and a winner. Part of the GOP formula for success has been that they always, always act like they deserve to be in charge, and conversely that their Dem opponents don't.
The more Democrats start acting like they deserve to be in charge, the better it will be for us. |

Although sometimes it is all a matter of perception.
Imagine, if the country actually knew how physically frail Reagan really was, and how the effects of Alzheimer were already manifesting late in his first term in office. |
