Introducing Discussionist: A new forum by the creators of DU

Wed Jan 16, 2013, 05:57 PM

I think our President is one pretty cool guy.

And I'm glad I cast my vote for him - twice. He is a leader I am proud of and that's hard to come by in today's world. I don't care what anyone says, but I consider him one of the best presidents this country has ever had and I believe history will bear that view out.

But I know, a generation from now, I won't hesitate to say to my grandkids I proudly voted for Obama.

I'm so looking forward to seeing him sworn in again. On TV, unfortunately. Can't make it down there, but I'll be there in spirit.

4. Yes. Yes he is.

It is so nice to have a President who doesn't only not make you cringe every time he opens his mouth, but proves that as long as the ideas resonate, all is not lost.

Not perfect, mind you... but indisputably cool. Coolest ever.

35. Far from perfect

I got alot of bones to pick with him. And I'm not one of the juice drinkers.

But I will say, everyonce and a bit some old piece of footage comes on with the Shrub saying almost anything and I remember what is was like having a functional moron for a president. I'm REALLY glad those days are over.

6. I voted for him three times! In the California primary as well as the 2008 election

and this past November as well.

I was very pleased and relieved and grateful that he won reelection.

NOW, I'm ECSTATIC!!!!!

I Love My President!!! Even prouder now than when I finished voting for him. He sure does speak for me these days. I'm seriously loving this new backbone he's showing all the time!

15. He's authentic

and he tells us what's up most of the time.

I feel a sense of trust there that I don't remember since the Carter days.

My gripes with him are things that might be fixed over the next 4 years, it's looking like sticky things will be addressed. I just hope he can take initiative more and not only act when an incident forces the Republicans to relent.

17. I'm proud of the three votes I've cast for him

one in the primaries and two for President. I'm more proud of my Obama votes than all the rest of them put together and I've cast a few. Be 65 in March so I've been to the ballot box a few times. Never before have I felt like giving to a candidate but with O I gave twice. best money I've ever spent too.

25. Wow, madokie, you really nailed how I feel about him, too.

I'll be 60 in May. And I too have been to the ballot box a few times. I gave to both his campaigns and consider it money well-spent. If anything, the investment is paying more dividends the second time around! And ironically, it's STILL his first term. Waning days, but it IS still just his first term.

Every day I'm just a little bit happier than I was just the day before!

19. I was hardcore for Hillary and almost even got in a bar fight over her once.

Then I read both of the President's books, listened to him speak a few times, and hopped on board just in time for the 2008 Iowa Caucuses. There have been a couple times when I thought, "Come on! Hillary would be kicking ass right now." But other than that, I haven't had any regrets. He's doing a great job, and I'm proud of him.

The clowns in the GOP are not taking our government seriously and have thrown its people under the bus. And all because he's driving it.

27. DI nails it again!

My first presidential vote was McGovern. I was 21 in 1969, so I missed out on the 18 year old voting age. I was a MI delegate in 1972 for McGovern, but didn't make it past the county convention -- competition was fierce and I worked for Western Electric (Ma Bell) at the time and was often out of town.

But I cannot say that I've liked any President since JFK as much as I love President Obama. Like all of them, he is not perfect, but -- Damn!! -- he's better than all the others who have held that office in my lifetime, save JFK. (I was too young during Truman to know anything about it.)

A happy R& for you DI!
