Democratic Congressman Laughs At Fox News’ Fiscal Cliff Misinformation

By Igor Volsky posted from ThinkProgress Economy on Jan 2, 2013 at 8:24 am

Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) schooled the hosts of Fox & Friends on the details of the deal to avert the so-called “fiscal cliff” during an appearance to explain his opposition to the Senate-passed compromise on Wednesday morning. Smith also laughed off the network’s suggestion that President Obama has not offered specific spending cuts.

Smith said he voted against the “American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012” because the measure locked in low revenue levels that could necessitate dramatic spending cuts in the future. The Fox News hosts appeared incredulous, however, arguing that Obama failed to put any spending cuts on the table or show leadership on entitlement reform. Once Smith pointed to Obama’s proposal to change the growth of Social Security benefits, co-host Steve Doocy quickly dismissed the plan as a “nonstarter.” The Congressman laughed at the network’s attempt to criticize Obama and then debunked its claim that the GOP offered more specific spending reductions than the president:

2. And there she sits in the middle with her skirt

up over her knee's, legs crossed every day in the same stupid position as if that makes Fox more credible. I don't know her name but this woman sickens me. How any sane person can watch this "show" blows my mind.

4. I think the woman sitting there isn't actually the normal person: Gretchen Carlson

But the woman does look almost exactly the same ... same hair, same style dress, same pose, same dazed facial expression.

Too funny.

3. The republicants want to find fault but offer no solutions

when Lyan Ryan said he would rescue $713B and give it to the wealthy - now there's an idea!

When I saw the Repukes waited until closer to elections to offer any ideas I thought -
Shouldn't they be contributing these ideas during the sessions of congress in order to
help form a budget to be voted upon? Why hold it secret and then spring it during the
election campaign and say - See, we have a better idea than you do...

Why didn't they use the time before the campaign to work together to formulate a budget?

Talk about dysfunctional!

We need a congress that works for the benefit of all Americans.

And they continue to do this right out in the open (oh my, transparency!) and the middle-class
Regurgitants still vote for them....

I talked to a friend over the holidays and she said her family was German immigrants and they saw others getting government money and living better than they did. I said, that shows the need to work together to get people off the welfare rolls. she would advocate that we cut benefits and these people would be cut from the program and probably find another way to get federal and state support because we aren't going to let them starve in the streets.

they think if you reduce funding that these people magically disappear!
That's the la-la land logic they are operating under.

6. What kind of deal are you going to get at the last minute? This deal should have been done

weeks ago with real spending cuts if the Rs really wanted them. The house simply will not accept tax
hikes to go with spending cuts. That's the problem with the House R's. That is why the senate had to make this deal.
