Senate Outraged at Having to Work Weekend to Save Nation

Howls of protest filled the halls of the U.S. Senate today as dozens of Senators expressed their outrage at having to work through the weekend to save the United States from financial Armageddon.

“We’re hearing a lot about the country plunging back into recession and millions of people being thrown out of work,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky). “What we’re not hearing much about is how our Sunday is being completely and irrevocably ruined.”

Senator McConnell said that when President Obama called the Senate back to work on a budget deal this weekend, “At first I thought he was kidding. Not only have I never worked on a weekend, I’ve never met anyone who’s done such a damn fool thing.”

The Senate Minority Leader added that “if saving this country means working Saturday and Sunday, then I’m not sure this is a country worth saving.”

1. Maybe if he and his colleagues had been doing their jobs

in the past few years instead of just obstructing, this wouldn't have happened.
The self-centeredness is jaw dropping.

2. He is there to filibuster and then he can go home...

As soon as any bill gets to the vote he will filibuster it and go back to KY to start campaigning. Soon the Senate will be working only 2 days a week. Perhaps if every government employees worked only when Congress did they would get the message that they are useless. We would do well to start a petition that required them to work 50 weeks a year like the rest of us and take pay cuts for absences. They should have the same health care they afford the rest of the nation, meaning some might need to wait 6 months as they are new. Boehner needs his time off to retain his orange glow and drink...thinks this job is like college break...temporary.

3. Say WHAT!!!!!!!??????

“We’re hearing a lot about the country plunging back into recession and millions of people being thrown out of work,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky). “What we’re not hearing much about is how our Sunday is being completely and irrevocably ruined.”

The level of audacity it takes to even THINK this shit, much less speak it aloud,is mind boggling........

6. WTF?? I honestly cannot believe this is serious!

How out of touch can you be you IDIOT, McConnell! You have to work on ONE Sunday and that is supposed to compare to millions being thrown out of work and the nation being plunged back into recession??

This is a joke, isn't it?

4. I really need to get a bigger violin

I keep misplacing the teeny tiny one.

Poor, poor babies! McConnell's never met anyone who's worked on a weekend? He needs to get out more.

Oh, it's Borowitz. It's getting hard to tell satire from news these days.

10. And yet while some got it by the end of the 2nd or 3rd paragraph,

others didn't.

When you already believe that somebody is worse than a satirist presents them to be after exaggerating and distorting him and his views, the point's lost. Irrevocably.

9. How many months off do they have a year?

Do they let their staffs have weekends off, while they are posturing on TV shows. Do they even read the legislation their staffs write for them. Maybe he should have fifty two weeks off a year starting in 2015. They should have their pension start a sixty five and save the US a lot of money. They are not concerned about social security, their pensions are huge as are insurance benefits in retirement.

20. Satire is difficult...

...when you have the Republicans around. Just so hard to tell when someone's joking about what they say or when they're being serious.

Could have had this done a week ago, or a month ago. Oh well... to the whiners in the Senate...

21. Like The Onion... The Borowitz Report is SATIRE.

I just now saw this OP - but earlier today I did hear someone (I think it might have been Don Lemon) on CNN say something about McConnell complaining about working on a Sunday.

So it looks like someone at CNN fell for it - LOL

22. Then go home McConnell. You are no help to this country anyway. The senate won't miss you.

If you seriously feel that way show your constituents that they don't mean a damn thing to you and go back home. You are as worthless there as you are in DC.
