GOP Senators Want To Take Debt Ceiling Hostage In Order To Raise Retirement Age

GOP Senators Want To Take Debt Ceiling Hostage In Order To Raise Retirement Age

Two Republican senators want to use the threat of an economic meltdown to raise the retirement age and cut Medicare. Sens. Bob Corker (R-TN) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN) introduced a plan today that would raise the federal debt limit by $1 trillion in exchange for $1 trillion in cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, as The Hill reported:

The Corker-Alexander dollar-for-dollar plan has several components.

It would structurally reform Medicare by creating competing private options giving seniors greater choice of healthcare plans. It would not, however, cap Medicare spending.

The plan would also give states more flexibility to manage Medicaid programs and prevent states from “gaming the federal share of the program with state tax charges.”

It would gradually raise the Social Security retirement age and use the “chained CPI” formula to calculate cost-of-living adjustments, curbing the growing cost of benefits.

1. Fuck that.

People who are over 50 have a hard enough time finding jobs. Now they want us to starve before we're old enough to collect Social Security.

2. Are Tennessee's senators threatening to fuck over the US if the US doesn't cow-tow to fucking over

its seniors? Words cannot be found in the English language sufficient to express the breathtakingly loathsome contempt the fine senators seem to be expressing to their constituents and country.

Contempt for the American people is right. Notice how they never, ever, ever mention cutting Defense.

8. read this: about 1 in 8 people age 40 will die before 65

That's about 12.5% who won't collect SS even though they pay in. Almost every man my husband, who is 65, knew when he grew up, met in the Army, or at work, is already dead. I can't help wondering why the idiots keep saying SS will go broke when so many people who pay in, don't get anything out. SS shouldn't even be on the table, that money was paid in by us who worked, for our old age. It isn't revenue like taxes and shouldn't be seen as part of revenue to pay for running the country.
I'd also like to see Congressional members fined when they screw off like this, fined until they get serious about their jobs and do the work they are elected to do.
