A Kennedy considers following in his fathers footsteps
Washington (CNN) - The late Sen. Edward Kennedys son, Ted Kennedy Jr., is seriously considering running for Sen. John Kerrys seat if Kerry leaves the Senate to become the next Secretary of State, a Kennedy family friend tells CNN.
Kerry is said to be the frontrunner to succeed Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is leaving her post next year. And Kennedy is being encouraged by friends and some Democratic Party leaders to run for the Massachusetts seat, which Kerry has held since 1985.
He is listening to everyone, but he is not going to make a decision unless there is an open seat, said the friend, who noted the telephone calls to Kennedy urging him to run have increased in the past 48 hours.
A poll released this week by WBUR shows that Democrats would have trouble holding Kerrys seat if Republican Sen. Scott Brown decides to run for it. Brown lost his own re-election bid in November, a defeat attributed to a well-funded opponent in Elizabeth Warren and a strong Democratic turnout in a presidential election year. In 2010, Brown won a special election to fill the late Sen. Kennedys unexpired term.

(21,846 posts)Why do the so-called pundits keep attributing it to Warren's being well-funded? Her campaign showed what an ass he was and I don't think the electorate will forget it so soon.
I just don't see Brown as a strong candidate for the Republicans. Bring him on!

(3,003 posts)Ted Kennedy, Jr. is a cancer survivor and should be able to generate plenty of sympathy vote. He may be the key to our keeping this seat Democratic.

(17 posts)I was praying that he accepted the challenge and took up the banner. He is a pure soul with an incredible story (losing his leg to cancer). Scott Brown wouldn't dare go up against him, he will be slaughtered!

(12,471 posts)He can win, but he has to run a good campaign.
Cokeley also wants the seat... AGAIN, but her campaign was crap, and that's why MA got Brown in the Senate. Time to wipe the brown off MA, once again, and for all!
