“Fiscal Cliff” negotiations have stalled again as Speaker of the House John Boehner has moved the goalposts outside of the stadium, because he doesn’t have the guts or the leadership to stand up to the extremists in his own party. He continues to walk on egg shells around the Capital and bow-down to his caucus at every turn. He will bend over backwards to keep the Tea Party off his back rather than actually negotiate a big deal with President Obama.
Speaker Boehner moves to “Plan B” which translates to waving the surrender flag to his own caucus that he is supposed to be the leader of. He cannot get the votes for any kind of compromise with Democrats to avoid the looming “Fiscal Cliff.” The right-wing extremists have taken over the House caucus in Congress and they refuse to budge on any negotiations. The GOP remains out of touch with reality as over 53% of Americans view the Republican Party as too extreme.
The House will be voting on Speaker Boehner’s “Plan B” today which only raises taxes on people who make over $1 million a year. This is way beyond the threshold of $400,000 that President Obama has already conceded. He just backed off from his stance of letting the Bush Tax Cuts expire on folks that make over $250,000 a year. The goal posts have been removed by Speaker Boehner at the request of his obstructionist colleagues.
A grand deal on “Fiscal Cliff” negotiations is looking more futile every day. The GOP will take their chances with voters as they refuse to give an inch. Republicans must be in denial over the recent elections where they lost the Presidency, along with seats in the Senate and the House of Representatives. Where have John Boehner and the rest of the moderates gone? Like the dinosaurs, they are becoming extinct, and the Republican Party may follow them.
