They need good candidates with interest in local politics.

1. Bingo....

this has been the Republic's strongest strategy for the past 30 years.

They have taken over state houses, senates, governor's mansions, school boards, commissions and boards of all types.

This gives them the ability to gerrymander congressional districts and push through a conservative agenda.

We must re-energize at the local level. Our ability to seriously influence the direction of this country depends on it.

2. After more than 20+ years surprisingly my town elected ...

a Democrat as a councilwoman who ran against an appointed Republican. Even with the smear campaign she won almost 2-1. My county is turning blue real quick we just picked up another seat on the legislature.

4. 2010 was just tragic

It was my understanding that after 06/08, that the democrats had a majority of governorships and controlled more state houses/senates than the Rs.

2010 totally flipped it, and right when redistricting came up.

We now are stuck with these districts for the next decade.

A LOT is going to happen over the next 8 years, but SOMEONE has to be in charge of looking at 2020 and developing the strategy to make sure that democrats are in a position to balance this out a bit.

I will say this, however.

I live in Pa. and we have some of the worst state/congressional gerrymandering in the country.

Rs of course have driven it.

But, Ds are complicit in it.

ALL pols like to keep their jobs, and when the Rs in power come up with their insane districts that load up Ds in a few districts, they don't face a lot of push back from the Ds who are being handed mortal lock safe districts.
