2. Peter Beinart in the Daily Beast is referring to this as Obama's "betrayal" of Susan Rice

WTH was he supposed to do? He hadn't even nominated her yet.

4. So relieved the election is over ...

Seriously, this crap again? More of the "The president is a big ol' meanie and should fight for shit that hasn't even really happened" crap? More of the outrage over fictional versions of things that happen? Damn, I had hoped that we were done with that now that he's been re-elected, but I guess now.

Ah well, I shall enjoy a big sigh of relief in knowing that all the ginned-up bullshit in the world can't keep him from his second term. Obviously, some still need to be mad about this kind of made-up outrage. I, personally, just smile and remember how well I'm sleeping at night at the knowledge that Obama was re-elected and nothing anyone does or says at this point can turn back the clock. Phew.

5. Yep.....

And those folks so enraged who will therefore sit on their hands in 2014,
can watch their country go to a place where it wont be able to come back.

That's what happens when we demand everything, have much to say about it all,
and then do nearly nothing other than to type negative stuff on the Internet against
our party instead of against the other part.....

That's what happened in 2010. I tried to tell folks to go against the real opponent,
but they assured me that it was a much easier job to shit on Obama!

Maybe this time, they can join forces with the Tea Party, and get Obama impeached.

11. She was worth a fight--the White House should have fought

Racism
Sexism
Weak democrats allowing the republicans to dictate the issues and the results.

Obama can choose any person he pleases for SOS. And he SHOULD have chosen her. She was qualified and he wanted her.

He allowed the republicans to win that fight. He should have fought for her.

Don't think for one minute that the decision to withdraw was Ms. Rice's. Obama asked her to. He did not want to lose face by not choosing her. And he did not want a fight.

I agree with those who say that his stance on the issue was lukewarm. After the initial aggressive response in the press conference, he backed down.

It makes me sick. And, frankly, disillusioned again.

shouldn't directly or indirectly be influenced by the right-wing tricky ways.

she is full of bullshit on this one, along with many others of hers over time.

this some people say shit has to stop.

name the name or shut the fuck up because that is the cause of bullshit 'journalism' -- where talking, gaping yaps like hers can say absolutely anything under the cover of not naming a source to forward a message.

Andre Mitchell is a dim witted moron being fed this bullshit by republicans who have now VERY effectively spun their piling on Rice to it being the President's fault.

24. Meh. How pissed off were we about Elizabeth Warren....er, I mean

kickass SENATOR Warren, with a kickass head of her agency to boot !!

I say, give it time. It will all work out for the best. The Prez can always put Rice in some other great job where she can accomplish even more than she could as SOS.

I'm not overly fond of Kerry in the position though. I'd rather somebody else got it. Whatever happened to Richardson?

30. Obama got burned nominating Richardson once

Richardson had to withdraw his name after being nominated for Secretary of Commerce due to pay to play allegations in NM. He also had sufficient baggage that both Kerry's and Obama's teams rejected him as VP.

27. Whoever the women are, they do not have President Obama to blame

Where were all the women (or men, just plain Democrats) in the administration or the Senate or the House who were standing up for Susan Rice, speaking out? Who was fighting back in the past weeks against McCain, Graham, Collins, et al.? Honestly, no one. There was a great big silence. There was even more than reticence from Democrats: there was near silence, or at best tepid denials that the Benghazi issue was misplaced. But there was never an outpouring of support for Susan Rice becoming Secretary of State from anyone but the White House.

The President made it publicly known that his top choice for the next Secretary of State was Susan Rice. The pushback was enormous. The support was not to be seen. A confirmation was a surefire fail in this situation. And now the PRESIDENT is to blame?

This is the biggest case of ass-backwardness I've ever seen expressed. Let's grow up about how things work in Washington. It's not a pretty place. The president doesn't always get what he wants. It's a crying shame, but you don't blame the person who was the only one to promote this candidate for the ultimate failure.

31. The President never said that she was his to choice - at least not in PUBLIC

There were articles where nameless "administration sources" said that she was --- including a pretty unlikely "leak" that Kerry was being considered for SOD. (Kerry's staff immediately responded that he would be unlikely to accept that.)

Even when he defended her, he prefaced the defense with saying that he had not made his choice, but this would not affect it. There are 2 possibilities, Obama had chosen her and then backed away from the choice or Obama was still considering the pros and cons or was already leaning to Kerry. (Incidentally, the pros and cons for choosing Kerry, likely included losing an excellent Senator and possibly a Democratic seat. ) One thing highly likely, is that Rice's withdrawal was like people who suddenly resign to spend more time with her family - she was very likely pushed by Obama.)

32. I'm skeptical. Rice wasn't targeted for her gender, she was targeted because

the Republicans want Kerry to be SOS so they'll have a chance at filling his Senate seat.
