2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI wish you could see my scarf (romney campaign)
A friend of mine manages the household and social affairs for a couple in NYC who are rated way up on the list of wealthiest Americans (I won't say where they are on the list, but you get the idea).
We are in NYC for a few weeks and threw a dinner party last night.
My friend showed up with treats she had pulled out of the house trash.
I am now the owner of a beautiful Hermes-quality scarf with unreal Red-White-and-Blue print in the body of the scarf with the RR logo at each corner. There is an ornate circle - maybe 14' diameter - with the words Founding Member stacked in the middle. The thing is every bit the equivalent of a Hermes140.
Those things retail for $800+. I am a textile freak and this is one of the finest scarves I have ever encountered.
Then there are the cufflinks and the lapel pin. I have two 1 1/2"sq lapel pins and two sets of cufflinks. Brushed platinum with the same thing etched into them. I have no idea what they are worth, but I am going to have them made into a guitar slide.
I don't know what I will do with the scarf - maybe wear it as a do-rag on my 'cycle (1910 Indian w/sidecar).
The couple had simply thrown this stuff into the trash. That, alone speaks volumes.
These items also speak to where the campaign saw their audience.
The Philippine help got the ties, dammit.

(6,930 posts)might as well make a buck off these people. I woudn't want to keep the things, myself, in any form.
