Is Terry McAuliffe really the best we can do in the VA governor's race?

I'm sure folks there know better than I, but he sure seems like a weasel.

3. Don't care for him at all,

and HOPE my neighbors in Virginia can come up with a better candidate.
Wasn't he heavily involved w Hillary's campaign? What would it mean, if he seeks VA governorship, and she seeks spot as POTUS???

Tom Perriello, now on Ed show, former member of Congress? Should he be drafted??? He was just asked about it, said not interested, but I DID detect a 'possible' in his response to the direct question from Ed.

5. Yeah I wish Perriello would change his mind, McAliffe is unlikable.

And I see no reason to believe he won't blow this race like he blew the dem primary big time last time around despite having a large money advantage.

7. Yeah McAuliffe was annoying in the 08 primary

I almost thought he was literally a member of a cheer leading squad the way he acted in support of Hillary. Get someone else please.

9. I dunno

Maybe he'll be better than the last Democratic candidate for Governor who spent most of his campaign running away from President Obama and trying to pretend that he wasn't really even a Democrat. Given the apparent extremism of the probable Republican candidate, it *should* be pretty easy to capitalize on it, provided, of course, we can GOTV in an off-year election.

10. it's a question I've asked myself, too

"Weasel" is the right descriptor.
At best he's really irritating. Among other personal beefs, he was less than helpful to Dems in 2004 presidential race-- whether from incompetence, or infirmity of commitment to the Dem candidates, or both. I find him a particularly unattractive specimen of the "new democrat" type, and it feels somewhat to me like he's buying the nomination. And I can't imagine that his irritating, wealthy-guy persona would go over well in a gubernatorial race.

I'm aware of the limitations of VA politics, given its purple (or rather divided) political status; a very progressive candidate would be not a politically realistic alternative. But, especially given the fact that VA republicans seem likely to nominate an extremely right-wing-nut-case candidate, surely the Dems can do the state the favor of nominating a decent alternative to the slimy, hapless McAuliffe?

14. I agree. We would be forfeiting to that nut Ken Cuccinelli.

He has the same problem of inauthenticity that Romney has with a side of "weasel."

13. I liked Creigh Deeds... but no one actually bothered to vote for him...

How do we avoid what happened last election in 2009? The least odious candidate won the Dem primary, but then proceeded to get crushed in the general.
