Buy American; We Don't

Santorum dreaming of a red, white and blue Christmas

Posted by
CNN's Dana Davidsen

(CNN) - Days before American shoppers rush to the stores for Black Friday deals after Thanksgiving, former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum joined a political choir urging Americans to buy at home this holiday season.

The Patriot Voice, a non-profit organization Santorum created in June after suspending his bid for the presidency, announced he and his wife, Karen Santorum's, "Made in the USA Christmas Challenge" Tuesday pushing holiday shoppers to buy gifts made in the United States.

"Whether Republican or Democrat, we can all agree that buying products made here at home makes sense," said Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, who during his White House run touted a "Made in America" plan aimed at deterring job creation in other countries and eliminating U.S. corporate income taxes on companies manufacturing domestically.

Santorum Drives His ‘Made in America’ Message Just So Far

Rick Santorum’s tax returns suggest his support for American manufacturing hasn’t always extended to his own automobile purchases.

His 2008 return shows that Mr. Santorum and his wife, Karen, listed a German car — an Audi A6 — among their business equipment. The car was placed in service on April 1, 2008, and was driven 11,850 miles that year, more than 6,000 of them for business purposes.

His personal business returns for 2009 and 2010 show that he still had a vehicle that was placed in service on April 1, 2008, suggesting that he still owned the Audi.

The Santorum campaign didn’t respond to a request for comment.

The last I heard, he was living in Loudoun County, Virginia. I wonder if the property tax records are considered public information. I know that real estate tax records are.

Sad Mitt Romney Handling "Repressed Emotions" With New Audi
http://laist.com/2012/12/02/mitt_romney_stewing_in_repressed_em.php

The country's most prominent professional candidate for president was laid off on November 6, and the Washington Post reports that Mitt Romney is basically in "seclusion" in his La Jolla home, with nothing to keep him occupied except some photos of the Little Romney Urban Achievers, his iPad, and a healthy dose of "personal introspection." Oh yeah, and hundreds of millions of dollars.

The son of Detroit—who boasted of the Cadillacs he owned as a sign of support for the U.S. auto industry during the campaign—was spotted driving a new black Audi Q7, a luxury sport-utility vehicle manufactured in Slovakia.

It's hard to buy American when a lot of products are no longer made in America.

Soap, deodorant, cosmetics, etc.

Certain types of toys are really hard to find that are not made in China. My daughters asked for certain dolls for Christmas and they are made in China.

are many products that are still Made in America. The question is, are Americans willing to pay more for products when the availability of less expensive knockoffs and competitor products exist.

I also tend to blame retailers for crowding out quality products.

Still, that is why I like:

MAGlite.

No other source of Flashlights for me.

These political charities don't pay any state taxes or sales tax..they are not a church or a real charity.

Political voices should pay their state taxes and sales tax, not be allowed to an organization as a "Non-Profit"

how to go from being a Consumer to an Educated buyer. As America learns that to buy American helps America they must also understand that it helps Americans as a whole.
