Meghan McCain Threatens to Leave Republican Party

November 16, 2012

Meghan McCain: "Times are changing. The face of America is changing and we as Republicans stand at a crossroads. Are we going to accept the changing face of America and change with it? Or are we going to continue to become more isolated and irrelevant? It's possible to maintain the core values of this party and evolve when it comes to social issues. Quite frankly, I don't see any other path to success."

"I've spent most of my adult life fighting for change from inside the Republican Party... And if we don't move forward, adapt, and become relevant again, the Republican Party isn't going to survive. It will just continue to alienate more moderate voters like myself. If I don't see some changes in the next four years, I'm going to consider registering as an Independent in 2016."

like extreme right wingers.

I actually think she's pretty good for a ReThug. If all the other Rethugs felt the same we'd have a much tighter election...so let's hope they don't listen to her.

6. Suddenly they all open their eyes

The whole campaign was one big hate fest. Each one trying to out hate the other. Convention a bunch of miserable haters.
Than there is us, happy, hopeful, joyful convention. Lots of positive energy. People from all walks of life coming together for a better country. And they just don't understand what went wrong. Ahh

...I will give her a SMALL round of applause, if she does.

Dem or Independent, I'll be waiting to see what she picks AND what direction she takes in making America better for everyone.

And I personally wonder, did she finally reach the breaking point when her nasty father, jumped on the Rice / Libya thing?

p.s....I've seen Thomas Roberts talking to her several times and he always says stuff like, "...you know that I really love you but..." Maybe he can help to talk some sense into her.

So, Meghan, what core values does your party have anyway (besides anarcho-capitalism)?

I think she's just bluffing and seeking attention. I mean who else is she going to vote for besides the GOP? The Libertarian Party? And her family's rich, so there's no way she'll ever vote for a Democrat.

41. This is an interesting story at several levels

Election 2012 will be disected by Political Scientists for the next 20 years. One big reason is that this was the election when the reliable, go-to wedge issues just failed to pay back. Abortion caused Republicans to lose two Senate seays they seemd certain to win. Gay marriage -- an issue that has brought social conservatives to the polls in droves since the Clinton era -- has now become the law of the land in two states as the result of the popular vote -- not the courts. Marijuana for recreational use was approved in two states, and the death penalty was eliminated in California. I wn't pretend either the GOP or conservatism are dead, but this election demonstrated that the strategy they used from 1980-2004 with success needs to be rethought.

Meghan McCain probably represents the thoughts of many Republicans -- especially those who've voted for Ron Paul the past two elections. They want smaller government and lower taxes, but they don't want excessive intervention in their personal lives. However I wonder about something else -- is she positioning herself to run for her father's seat? Does she realize that the numbers -- long run -- wont favor the Brewers and the Sherriff Joes, and she wants to position herself as a new kind of conservative.

That leads to an even bigger question: you operate a conservative superPAC. Right now, you feel angry and ripped off. Do you bet on the GOP again in 2016, or do you start to find independent candidates. Candidiates who support key positions on taxes, spending, and entitlements, but who are far more centrist on issues you don't care about. You wouldn't do worse than you did in this election, and who better than an independent to say "the system is broken and neither party has an answer?"

I am betting she will after he dies or retires.

The Bush Twins, I bet money, vote Dem, but don't say anything publicly because of their father and grandfather.

Meghan McCain is smart and articulate, and also has a ready platform. I hope she does "come out" as a Dem in the future.

fuck what she things?

The ONLY reason any of us have ever heard of her is because she had the foresight to get born to John McCain. Otherwise, she has no qualifications of any kind for anything other than perhaps working at WalMart.

The few times I've seen her speak she decidedly does not come across as articulate or well informed or particularly well educated. She does come across as entitled.

Too bad she doesn't have to get a real job on her actual merits.
