The old Librarian/Farmer test

You show someone a picture of a pale man with glasses.

Is this person likelier to be a librarian or a farmer?

People tend to answer librarian, but the picture is likelier to be of a farmer because male farmers greatly outnumber male librarians.

The picture is more typical of male librarians but there are more atypical farmers than there are typical librarians.


(This is an old classroom exercise. I don't know how the demographics of the professions have held up.)
