Bohener: "No Tax Rate Rise On the Rich, Or Else!" / Obama: "Ok, Willing to Compromise on the issue"

Uhh...why not just let the rates rise on everyone and then write a new bill that just lowers the rates for middle-class (anyone below $250k) and dare the republicans to reject it. Simple. I think the President forgot who won the Election. So, me thinks Obama wants to have an excuse to allow the republicans to keep their tax cuts again. Best guess he will agree to keep rates for the rich as they are and go the weak ass position of removing loopholes that will be put back in the following year. And why does Obama want corporate tax rates to go down too anyway? Seems like this grand bargain is more good for republicans than bad.

2. Obama says tax hike has to come first in "fiscal cliff" deal

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Wednesday that Republicans would have to agree to raise taxes on the wealthy as the first step in a budget deal that would prevent a dysfunctional Washington from pushing the economy into recession.

9. Your quote in the headline is bullshit and going for sensationalism like

"The Globe" goes on about "Obama's College Transcripts"... that I see in the drugstore magazine racks by the register.

I think your post is "weak ass".

10. I had a dream

I was walking through DC and all around me as far as I could see were flaming and chared bodies of republicans. I stopped someone and asked them what the hell was going on and said that god finally decided to fight Satan.

Sometimes dreams can be refreshing .............

anyone notice?

He's not willing to compromise on the issue of the 2 percent paying more, and the 98% not paying more. But he will consider various ways of making the 2% pay more, as long as it doesn't have a negative effect on the 98%.

15. I agree that the Dems should write a bill, short and simple,

that gives a tax cut for the first $250,000 of income. If the Rethugs dare to prevent it from passing it will only help the Democrats in the 2014 mid term elections. Let the rest of the tax breaks expire.

17. Since dumbass pseudo-progressivism has shown itself to be completely ineffective

Ridiculous assertions like this are now simply amusing.

Obama hasn't even started his second term yet. That's what's so funny about the so-mad pseudo-progressives and their laughable temper tantrum. They didn't get their "I Told You So" one-termer moment (which they all predicted on numerous occasions, it should be noted), so they're whining and acting like spoiled brats all up and down this board. But their tantrum does nothing. They have as little leverage as the GOP.

Like I said, amusing.

21. Everything should be on the table

I would prefer increase in tax rates as opposed to reducing or eliminating deductions but I think everything has to be on the table. But there are no specific deductions listed yet so very, very skeptical about this.
Reducing the corporate rate to 25% may seem like a good idea IF the elimination of the right loopholes is done -- but corps don't pay taxes these days anyway.
And we don't even know the other side of the equation regarding spending cuts.

25. Why not report on the actual article?

Obama never said those quotes. He told Boner and the House to pass the Senate bill. Boner said no. Therefore, if there is no compromise we will go over the fiscal road bump as Lawrence O'Donnell refers to it. We will then have the Senate pass the middle class tax cuts and then it will go to the House. Essentially, nothing different then what you are saying except President Obama never said those quotes. Now, why not just post that to begin with?

28. He's open to compromise on how to raise the rate...

Income tax? Capital gains tax? Securities transaction tax?

There are options OTHER than putting the individual rate back to the 1999 level.
