2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI'm proud of her
100 million people watched the debate tonight.
To put that into perspective, only about 25 million watched both Hillary's and Trump's convention acceptance speeches.
Many people began REALLY paying attention to the election today.
For many people, this was their first REAL, unfettered exposure to Hillary Clinton.
They've been led to believe, for years, this cartoonish villain caricature that the right created. And she was not that.
They'd been hearing that she was feeble and sick and that Trump was strong and vital. But they saw him sniffling through the debate and damn near drinking a gallon of water - while she was the picture of health and didn't take a single sip.
In 2008 I fought like hell for Barack Obama, including in the primaries when I worked strongly against her. At that time, I could never see myself supporting her.
But this year, I am a full-throated Hillary supporter.
She exhibited a command of every issue.... she exhibited charm and a sense of humor and JUST the right amount of indignation at the asshole sharing the stage with her.
And she made me.... a 49-year-old white guy who makes six figures, who demographically should be a Republican.... proud to say I support her.
6 months ago, I was voting for "Anybody but Trump".
Today... I'm voting for Hillary Clinton.

(524 posts)And yes, I realize it's mostly made up garbage, but I do care about electability. We need to keep the presidency out of GOP hands.
I would have been ok with her in 2008, but then Obama appeared, and I got stars in my eyes... *swoon*. Boy, I really wanted him to be president. Stick him right in the eye of the goddamn racist fuckers in this country.
And she kind of pissed me off back then during the primaries. I never really disliked her though, and I tend to doubt things the right says about her. They have made so many lies about me because I'm gay. They don't deserve the benefit of the doubt on anything in my eyes.
In any case, I've never felt as good about her as tonight. I AM with her. I need to send her some money now...

(108,977 posts)I love reading posts like yours.
I also was very happy to vote for Obama, but I would have been happy with either of them -- so I didn't bother to go to my state caucus (an onerous process).
This time around, I was on board with Hillary from the beginning. And I even went to the caucus AND voted in the primary for her. And it's been great to see more and more Democrats understand what some of us have been seeing for a long time.

(5,255 posts)She was fantastic. Met and exceeded every one of my expectations. I'm thrilled for her and for all of us. There's much more work to be done, but this was a significant hurdle for her to clear given the MSM's readiness to pounce if she did not put on a bravura performance. But she did.
