Will the Republicans get it right 2014 or 2016? What do you think?

There is no message that is coming straight from their heart from the right wing. They will attempt to woo voters from the groups that staunchly supported Obama, but their efforts are so transparent that they will gain little ground. Even their spiritual leader Billy Graham has been so compromised that he is of little use to raise their consciousness. When your basic motive is greed it is so transparent. Witness California, the home state of Nixon and Reagan, is now a super majority of Democrats in most offices. The Republicans have self marginalized themselves with right wing rhetoric. I don't think anyone will believe a Bushism like "I am a compassionate conservative". He and his Party have burned the brand away from that belief with a transparent avarice so obvious to all. It appears as if the Tea Party will keep this direction and mortally wound the chances for any recovery in the Grand Old Party.

2. No

I don't think they will . . . And I think the Senate races coming up in 2014 will show this. They can only win House seats by playing up rhetoric, fear, anger, and hate . . . they can't win statewide or nation wide.

4. Obama has already created a generation of Democrats

One thing we know (and Howard Dean reminded us of this in 2008): once younger people have begun to vote for a party several times, they usually stay attached to that party for their lifetimes.

Obama's successful efforts to engage a grassroots cohort of younger voters will have a lasting effect for a generation or so, at least. Even a moderated Republican Party will have problems peeling off enough of these newer Democratic voters to buy into a fiscal conservative outlook.

My two cents.

5. Have to wait and see how they handle budget matters.....

If it goes to an impasse, then you know the wackos still have control, and won't be a change. If the Dems are smart enough to wipe out the filibuster rules in the Senate, that could set the stage for 2014, and a takeover in the House. And it would bode well for the Dems into 2016, as the wackos still won't figure out what's happening, even by then.

6. For 2014 and 2016

it will primarily be about the economy. Without economic growth the Democratic brand will be mud in these elections. Romney had an insane proposal to cut taxes even further when we are looking at a current $1T debt, but if the debt grows to $20B and interest rates go up? $20T at 6% interest rates = $1.2T. You will also be paying off S.S. Treasury Notes with general revenue. How much will Sandy cost as well?

Lots are people are pretty cavalier about the debt on this this board, but some facts to think about. We have no divine mandate to be the reserve currency. What happens when the other economies recover and drive interest rates up?

We own the economy now.

7. CA so blue in due in part to Prop 187

that burned a big bridge with Latinos that is still smoldering. The GOP seems think they can undo years to nativist talk, even if by some miracle the DREAM Act is passed, it'll do little good.

8. GEORGE P. BUSH

The new Trojan horse will be this Hispanic looking next generation person. The lies will be perfected and the slick campaign will blow the minds of those simple people who do not have the cognitive process to walk and chew gun at the same time. The party which utilized 20th century political practices in the 21st century will go DIGITAL in all its glory to rewrite history and drop their current idiot mistakes until they are in power.

The tea party is the TAIL wagging the DOG. George P Bush will be the new tail wagging the dog.
