Hundreds come out at Ole Miss for candlelit walk against riots

About 700 people participated in a candlelight walk calling for civility and mutual respect at dusk Wednesday night at the University of Mississippi, a campus with a tense racial history. On election night, that racial tension re-emerged when social media sparked a protest among students on the Ole Miss campus.

Let the light shine on racism everywhere.

I congratulate the 700 students out of a population of 15,000 for gathering.

As an African American, I would feel fundamentally unsafe on that campus. The violent rioting and shouting of racial epithets would cause me to mistrust my fellow students who had rioted and also cause me heightened apprehension about my personal safety.

Those feelings would not go away after a candlelight vigil photo OP.

By the way, thank you for feeling like you need to validate my concerns. Must be nice.

The KKK showed up on the campus in 2010 and the Ole Miss student body gave em hell. Notice the little white girl who starts a "GO TO HELL KKK" chant.

I've gone to Ole Miss games for years. Last year, I stayed with a black law student I'm friends with up there during game weekend. The good outweighs the bad. Sadly, any time the word Mississippi is attached to anything, the moment some idiots take some stupid actions, everyone notices.

Blah. It's so hard to be a progressive down here. Especially when your fellow progressives are looking down on you and the locals aren't helping.
