Whoa! Gen. Petraeus resigns citing extra-marital affair!

If he's a Republican, it's like a gold star.

Might not have had much of an impact but definitely would have sucked the news vultures in for a day at least.

3:00PM EST November 9. 2012 - NBC reported Friday that CIA director David Petraeus has resigned from the CIA, citing an extramarital affair.

NBC's Andrea Mitchell said the resignation was submitted in a letter dated Friday and was accepted by the White House.

In a letter, Petraeus noted that he had been married for 37 years and had exercised "extremely poor judgment' in conducting an extramarital affair ...

to fire Petraeus due to the poop at the CIA's doorstep over the Benghazi attack. It looks like the CIA had taken the lead in providing security for that installation and failed to get predator drones on site in a timely manner when our people called for help. Apparently the CIA was flying unarmed drones over the embassy watching our people get killed. Here is a video report on the resignation.

I'm just wondering. No one demanded his resignation. The reality is, at his age, if you can still get it up and you have the money and power to attract younger women...

Bill cheated too and we accepted and understood that this was a personal weakness...no one is perfect. I just don't see any reason he should resign. Yes, this can compromise security in the CIA but it depends on the circumstances. Were you cheating with someone you didn't know very well?

I don't know. This doesn't make much sense to me.

It sure can, and it doesn't matter who it was with.

... In a statement, Obama said that Petraeus has “provided extraordinary service to the United States for decades,” saying that “through his lifetime of service David Petraeus has made our country safer and stronger.”

Although the statement did not directly address Petraeus’s reason for resigning, the president said his “thoughts and prayers are with Dave and Holly Petraeus, who has done so much to help military families through her own work. I wish them the very best at this difficult time.”

Over the past week, Petraeus had traveled to Libya and Jordan, and directed the agency’s response to the controversy surrounding the attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi. Officials said Petraeus insisted the controversy had nothing to do with his decision to resign.

He came into the CIA job after a distinguished U.S. Army career that carried him from West Point to leadership positions in which he was tapped to lead the war efforts in Afghanistan and Iraq ...
