Fox station tells Romney supporters how to ‘beat the traffic’ to Canada
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/11/08/fox-station-tells-romney-supporters-how-to-beat-the-traffic-to-canada/
In the Fox 23 “Beat the Traffic” segment on the morning after Obama won re-election, traffic reporter Jeff Brucculeri took a look at some of the delays around Tulsa before having some fun with disgruntled voters.
“We had some folks make a special request,” Brucculeri explained. “I know a lot people said that if their candidate lost the election, they’d be moving to Canada — not sure why, but that was some of the folks’ promises out there.” So, the traffic anchor proceeded to give “the quickest and directest route” up north, where big government, same sex marriage and universal health are a part of everyday life. Montreal-based immigration lawyer David Cohen told CNN that he had received calls from all over the United States after Romney lost on Tuesday. “That’s the amazing thing, when they speak on the phone. They’re adamant. They feel very, very strong about it,” Cohen said. “This government doesn’t speak for me’ is the language that we often hear.” I hope they enjoy their socialized healthcare. Idiots.

Lax regulations and enforcement of laws, fewer environmental constraints on "bidness" etc... should be perfect for the small government types. And no snow.

4. I felt the same way under Dubya
|
But I've had the excuse that I've always wanted to be there anyway. Canada might look pretty good after another decade of Global Warming. I found however, as the conservative idiots are finding, that the Big Leaf has some pretty stringent immigration standards. Of course, I'm guessing with a border that big yankees could just sneak across. The irony of that, however, would be rich. |

6. "Stringent" immigration standards - yes - but quite liberal as well.
|
Canada's immigration rate is 2 1/2 times higher than the US, but they do enforce their immigration laws quite strictly.

That's what gets me when people complain about illegal immigrants. Do they have any inkling what it takes to immigrate legally to the US? |

7. For us, fleeing to Canada from Bush made a degree of sense. For conservatives fleeing from Obama...
|
...not so much. Unless they think that if they're going to be stuck with social democracy, it might as well be FULL, functional social democracy instead of incomplete, half-assed social democracy.

Nice, business friendly governments there. Of course, the problem for Repubs are there are too many people in those places who are obviously foreigners. A GOPer would feel at least Canadians are polite enough to hide it. |

8. I immigrated to Canada
|
after Bush won in 2004. It took two years to get approved, and the process was very stringent. As Americans you can't just "bump" yourself to the front of the line. Finally moved in 2006, and got my citizenship in 2011.
I still vote in Colorado, and still have my American citizenship, but I am happy here and have no regrets. Socialized medicine, gay marriage nationwide, our Conservative Party is more like the Dems, respect for immigrants, bilingualism...I an NEVER see a Republican being happy here |

22. Yes...

After passing the points system (which looks at age, bilingualism, level of education, Canadian relatives, employability, etc.) I came in as a skilled worker due to my MSW, and had to prove that I had at least $10,000 in funds. Not only that, but I had to pass a background check with the FBI and CSIS, get criminal records from every state I lived in, have a very thorough medical exam (after all they don't want sick people inundating the medical system), not too mention letters of reference and paying fees.
The process is not for the feint of heart, and Americans get no "special" treatment. |

13. The funny thing is: canada prioritizes visas / citizenships based on education (Fact-based)
|
for all the republicans that want to go to canada, things you must know:
- immigration system is based on points - prioritizes those with degrees - prioritizes those who are young and middle aged (you have to give before you get) - prioritizes those who speak two languages (English and french) So, if you are an angry old white man from the south, getting into canada is a bitch! and if you get in you might not like it. you have to swear allegiance to a monarch you have to believe in "peace, order and good government" |

Acquiring "landed immigrant status" in Canada is an involved process with well defined criteria. Unhappiness with election results is not one of the criteria for landed immigrant status.

|
Most people who live abroad have a specific reason (i.e. they are married to a foreigner, they work in a certain country, etc.). I don't think political ideology is one of the top reason Americans have left the country.
BTW I live overseas and moved here to work and got married. I plan to stay for many reason. A bonus is universal health care |

We don't want the nasty Repubs here, maybe if there are some that are nice... lol
Besides they wouldn't get to see their favorite channel, Fox News. Fox News Channel is not allowed in Canada. You can't tell lies and pretend it is the truth here and call it a News Channel. Apparently they have tried but because of the lies and the racist stuff they try to spew they are not welcome here.... Which I am very happy to hear!!!! |
