Inside Philanthropy provides some details:
If you look at the Clinton Foundations consolidated expenses for 2014, which totaled $249 million, youll find that the biggest part of those expenses57 percentwas for running the Clinton Health Access Initiative, or CHAI. Technically, CHAI is a freestanding nonprofit, and it files its own 990 tax return, but it is still roughly under the Clinton Foundation umbrella. CHAI was started in 2002 to focus on saving the lives of people with HIV/AIDS in the developing world by dramatically scaling up antiretroviral treatment. It has since expanded to address other health issues like malaria and maternal health, operating in some 35 countries. The Gates Foundation is CHAIs biggest funder. It gave it over $60 million last year alone.
Meanwhile, the Clinton Foundation directly runs various programs tackling other problems. The largest of these, dollar-wise, is the Clinton Climate Initiative, which works to prevent deforestation, develop clean energy, and help island nations meet the climate challenge (as weve reported). As with CHAI, theres nothing all that surprising about this effort, which is similar to other nonprofit work in the climate space. The government of Norway, which gives large amounts of money globally to slow deforestation, is among the top funders of CCI.
Okay, so HIV/AIDS treatment, malaria, maternal health, clean energy, preventing deforestation. The bulk of the Clinton Foundations money, according to this reporting, goes to these totally traditional activities for a public charity. Additionally, the Clinton Foundation told FactCheck.org that Clinton Development Initiative staff in Africa train rural farmers and help them get access to seeds, equipment and markets for their crops and Clinton Health Matters staff work with local governments and businesses in the United States to develop wellness and physical activity plans.
So there you have it. Thats what Donald Trump and a slew of other Republicans are attacking. As charitable work goes, its not exactly buying a Tim Tebow jersey, but we cant all make that much of a difference in the world.

(118,577 posts)advocate for those lives. Almost like they have bots that scour the Net to look for people sympathetic to anything african. That is another reason why the GOP would be attacking the Clinton Foundation. They don't want africans to thrive and the Clinton Foundation is big on spreading the wealth from the world to solve problems that are more serious or have been ignored in Africa. I'm sure they want it out of the public eye.

(9,148 posts)More people today see the global good the Clinton's have set in motion through these necessary projects.
More people today than yesterday..and thanks to the angry lying mob on the Right, the whole world will now be made more aware of the outstanding and upfront business of running both CF & CGI, and the benefit to humanity the Clinton's have accomplished through their work.
The corrupt only see corruption.
The good see where good is needed.

(9,148 posts)I posted this story of how the need develped into a working project via a chance meeting with Bill Clinton.
The results are both bittersweet & remarkable.
Here is the link in case you haven't read it.

Laura Seay about what the Clinton Foundation actually does
And here's my overall view on the entire Clinton Project.
With respect & admiration:
With the enormous good that has come from The Clinton Foundation, on a global scale, it makes sense that a callous selfish individual like Trump would see no reason for such a beneficial endeavor, as the Clinton's took upon themselves to organize for the simple purpose of benefitting the fraility of humankind.
Honestly, in reading Seay's story I wondered just what Donald Trump , with all his billions and his global connections, had done to make the world a better place. The Clintons didn't have to do this. They could have chosen to live life on as grand a scale as Trump.
But they chose this path because this is who they are.
Thank You~mhw

(14,853 posts)... of the donations don't go to help the needy. (As if they really care anyway.)
It goes back to the CF being open with their tax forms and some RW idiot using a section of the form, dishonestly, to make that seem to be the case. It all stems from how the CF does accounting for the money.

As we noted earlier, many foundations carry out charitable works by giving money to other organizations that, in turn, do the ground-level charity work, whereas the Clinton foundations charitable works are mostly done by people on the foundations payroll. "We are an implementing organization rather than a grantmaking organization," said the foundations Minassian. Thats why the Clinton Foundations 990s show a relatively small amount of money categorized as "grants" -- only about 10 percent of all expenses in 2013.
The foundation says its own employees are doing its charitable work. The annual report -- which, remember, includes both the Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Health Access Initiative -- says that 7 percent of expenditures were spent on "management and expenses" and 4.5 percent for "fundraising." (The numbers on the 990s for the two entities are in the same ballpark.)
Add those two percentages together and you get almost 12 percent; subtract that from 100 percent and you get the magic 88 percent figure the foundation cited.
What's especially sickening to me is that I've seen supposed Democrats on TV who seem to have swallowed the GOP lie... hook, line and sinker.
