"two of whom are young women named Mackenzie"

Reality is beating satire by a landslide this year

Ivanka Trump Mocked For Having Unpaid Intern Blog About Getting By Without Pay

Heiress and entrepreneur Ivanka Trump was on the receiving end of some Twitter mockery for enlisting one of her lifestyle blog's unpaid interns to write a piece posted Thursday about savvy strategies to get by without a paycheck.

In “How to Survive as an Unpaid Intern,” copy intern Quincy Bulin surveys her fellow team of unpaid interns, two of whom are young women named Mackenzie, for their penny-pinching tips. These include adding a part-time summer job to make up for lost income and organizing potlucks with friends to avoid spending money on expensive meals out.

The irony of a billionaire presidential nominee's daughter declining to pay the female staff she uses to promote her lifestyle blog‚ which champions working women, was not lost on social media users. Some asked Trump whether her internship program complied with federal regulations ensuring that work programs are educational and benefit the intern more than the employer. Others raised an eyebrow at the choice to use emojis of black women in the graphic accompanying the article on social media.

- "champions" young women

- black women emojis

- two Mackenzies ?

1. Is Mackenzi a pseudonym for McIver, which is a pseudonym for Trump, which is...?

Trying to follow just one thread of ineptness with the Trumps is like following a fractal object into a black hole and trying to piece it all back together again!

2. Every year I hire summer interns

When I was at NASA, the government paid them (not a lot, but something).

Now in the private sector, I usually get approval for 2 interns... this year it was 1. But we pay them a decent salary ($25/hour... but this is the bay area so that's like a barely living wage).

I usually have some sort of research that they can conduct (and finish in 2.5 months), which might lead to publication or even to post graduate work (if they choose that).

4. Had 2 unpaid internships in grad school - but they were not-for-profits and I'm a social worker.

A bit different than when you're working for a for-profit corporation. When I was in banking, I think they did pay the interns. There has been some talk of cracking down on unpaid internships. We actually had to pay the school to be an unpaid intern. It was considered a 2 credit class.
