Buckle up your seatbelts, GOP …

… you’re in for a bumpy night. Actually, you’re in for lot of bumpy nights between now and November.

Since the election of Donald Trump as your party’s nominee, it has been more than amusing to watch it slowly dawn on you that your candidate is what everyone else knew him to be all along: a crude, loud-mouthed liar with zero credibility and even less sense. The man is stupid beyond measure, and has yet to verbalize a coherent thought. His knowledge of domestic and foreign affairs is not lacking; it is completely non-existent. His ignorance – and his penchant for displaying it – literally knows no bounds.

A lot of you seem to be wondering how this abusive idiot ever wound up as your nominee in the first instance. Well, someone voted for him – in fact, a lot of someones did – and you’re acting like you never saw it coming.

I guess it didn’t occur to you that after your party’s decades-long stirring the pot of racism, disdain for the poor, hatred towards immigrants, etc., the people who followed your lead would see someone like Sir Rants-a-Lot as the brave knight who had the balls to state outright what your party has only whispered, or couched in nudge-nudge, wink-wink terms that could later be denied.

Every time Trump insults another group of people – Muslims, women, minorities, the disabled – and his crowds cheer, the country sees what the Republican party has become. Every time a Trump supporter yells “burn all the niggers” or “kill all the Muslims”, the American people are left in no doubt as to what the GOP stands for. Every time a Republican spokesperson attempts to excuse or rationalize Trump’s outlandish remarks, the voters are reminded that your party’s candidate-of-choice represents everything you have been promoting for years, but tried to keep hidden from view.

Things are bad enough for you, my friends across the aisle. But they’re about to become a lot worse. As dumb as he is, Trump has managed to figure out one thing: he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning this election. What that means is that all the babysitting, all the admonitions to stay on message and tone down the rhetoric, all the strategy meetings meant to drive home the idea of not doing any further damage than has already been done, are all for naught.

Your Darlin’ Donald has absolutely no reason to heed your warnings, nor take your advice. He has no political career to salvage, no political ambitions to be furthered, and no motivation to be anything more than what he’s always been: an ignorant bigot with a big mouth. He wanted the ultimate spotlight of being the presidential candidate of a major party, and you gave it to him. And now he is basking in that light and, in the doing, is exposing the hypocrisy, the bigotry, the greed, and the lack of conscience that the GOP has tried to keep in the dark for decades.

So buckle-up, Republicans. Strap your asses into your seats, and try to hold on to what's left of your feigned principles. Your already bumpy ride is about to become the worst case of political butt-hurt in American history.

After he gets humiliated in the November GE, Trump will be using his not insignifant base to create a new media network. Ailes, Mannon, probably Hannity, and Billo will create a better version of Fox News - new media model dedicated to taking down Fox and the GOPe. The end result will be 2 factions of of the current voting block, formally known as the GOP. Trump will get the racist, bigot, homophobic, anti-immigrant, coal rollers, and miscellaneous low info voters. The other faction will have the 1%'s, holy rollers, and sane, moderate business oriented Republicans. I hope each faction reflects 1/2 of the total voters that went with Romney in 2012,

and lowest instincts since Goldwater was talking states rights in 1964. They used coded language like Nixon's "Law and Order," or keep minorities in their place. Trump has scoured the bottom and used the same language. Reagan promoted traditional values like when he started his campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the locale where three young civil rights workers were murdered by the Klan (AKA law enforcement), thus reinforcing the keep minorities in their place message. Then George Herbert Walker Bush unleashed the specter of Willie Horton, furloughed African American convict who raped a white woman.
Then along comes Trump who lanced the boil known as the Republican appeal to bigotry. I can't wait for Trump to just come out and say the magic words that ensure the base is riled up, "keep the brown down."

One of the greatest film scripts ever written and an absolutely huge and awesome ensemble cast.

Thelma Ritter, George Sanders, Celeste Holm, Barbara Bates, even Marilyn Monroe in an early speaking role.

It played on Turner Classic Movies last Tuesday.

If you can get TCM, DU has the schedule posted every day ahead of time.

Here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1030

I go there every day, and I don't even have cable TV. I just love old cinema.

Fasten your seat belts. Indeed!

Someone on DU made a great comparison. This would be like the Dems nominating Kanye West to run against Mitt Romney.

First off, Kanye would have NEVER made it through the primaries, but if he did the electoral map would be solid red right now. And, AND the media would be saying nothing other than, how the hell could the Democratic Party allowed this to happen.

So yes, the Mango Mussolini will take a beating but nowhere even CLOSE to the worst case of political butt-hurt in American history.

I'd say most are must misguided followers who've fallen victim to their own lack of skepticism. I want to say that if they had to spend two days working on some work project together with the Obama's, Clinton's or any number of democrats they vilify, simply based on what they see on RW TV, they'd come away with nothing but respect and a softened position.

Basically, they'd know what we already know. Democrats are good people.

A lot of you seem to be wondering how this abusive idiot ever wound up as your nominee in the first instance. Well, someone voted for him – in fact, a lot of someones did – and you’re acting like you never saw it coming.

For the past several POTUS elections, the Republicans around where I live acted like they were on some political high-road because their candidate didn't have extramarital affairs, respected the military and "supported the rights of the unborn and the sanctity of life." And look at who they nominated this year? He's everything they've trashed the Clintons, Obamas and Kerrys, etc. in spades! And they just can't figure how they will support Trump with a straight face after all of the slamming they've done to Democratic candidates in the past. But they will vote for him. They'll reach deep for some excuse and find one. If nothing else, they'll just rationalize "Well, Hillary's worse!"

I've said for years that the local Republicans would vote for a Hitler/Stalin presidential ticket if they ran as Republicans. If the Democrats ran Jesus Christ and St. Peter on their ticket, they would listen to Faux Snooze and their RW trash shows for talking points on how to spin their minds into believing that Hitler and Stalin would be better than JC and St Pete on family values and economic issues.

I also find it amusing that the Republicans have slammed the Democrats and their connection to Hollywood celebrities over the years. And look at who they've nominated for their POTUS candidate! Trump's only redeeming quality (if you want to call it that) is that he's a Hollywood celebrity. This is hardly an isolated incident. Look at the other outspoken Republicans who hold or held political office - Ronald Reagan, Arnold Schwarznegger, Clint Eastwood, Charlton Heston, Fred Thompson, Fred Grandy, Sonny Bono and maybe others I haven't thought of.

watching my tea-bagger relatives come to terms with what they have wrought. And they all do understand somewhere inside them that their attitudes, and their hatreds that they hide behind their oh-so-virtuous Christianity, and that weird right-wing smugness were what brought them to this moment.

They're horrified. And I'm loving it.

"Loser!" is an option. Or some variation, like "Very, Very Big Loser!"

"You're Fired!" is too easy. Maybe "Historic Loser!"? Or "National Embarrassment!"

Trump and the GOP must be humiliated for all time.

1) Never underestimate the stupidity of the American people.

2) His campaigns is so outlandish that he is in cahoots with Obama and running a sand-bagging interference campaign against the GOP.

I'm not sure the two points above have to be rational. Just suggesting some consideration of one or both, however unlikely.
