Does the Repub party actually think the base will let them recalibrate?

All day, I've been listening to the pundits, many of them repub pundits, talking about how this thumping should make the repub party have a serious discussion about the direction they are headed; namely, oblivion if they don't recalibrate. As Lindsay Graham said, there are only so many angry old white guys. Their main problem, though, is that the batguano crazy base will never let them change from the women hatin', gay hatin', minority hatin', immigration hatin' whackjobs the party of Lincoln has become. Never happen. At least in my lifetime.

They are so totally fucked!

But if any of the more sensible Repubs are recoiling in horror this morning at what Faux News, Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage (Wiener) have wrought, com on over. Join reality. Be able to sleep nights again. Become a member of the party of Jefferson. We're a whole lot more fun. And smart.

1. Well if they don't change they will not win elections, period.

2. Not sure

Their talkingheads and electorate don't, but the party leaders might change anyway and hope that the elctorate still supports them.

Rush and company are certainly doubling down on the rhetoric today.

3. I think they will end up splitting into two factions or

perhaps two parties. The sane, reasonable Republicans who believe in math and science, like Christie, and the whackjobs like Bachman.

I don't think they will be able to coexist for too much longer.

5. They were going to change in 2008

but the change ending up becoming more extreme. Does anyone really think they have the ability to change without breaking into two seperate parties? If they go towrds the center (whcih they should) the Tea Baggers will tear them apart. Look what happens to moderate Repubs, such as Dick Lugar, they get torn apart by the wacko tea baggers and are replaced by mental midgets.

6. The heck with the base. The pundits themselves don't want to recalibrate

They've decided that they have to improve their marketing but are horrified that the coming electorate absolutely hates their product.
