2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI welcome Bloomberg to the party with open arms. Even though I am to his
left ideologically, and we can all rattle off Bloomberg positions that we disagree with, often vehemently.
But, this is what a "big tent" is all about. On the environment, on guns, on social issues, Bloomberg is great. He was a good mayor for NYC (even though I strongly disagree with stop-and-frisk). On economic issues, he's to the right of most Dems, but he's not some loony Ayn Rand worshipper.
Most importantly, he is a smart, clear-minded, decent, respectful person who understand the stakes involved and the crucial importance of defeating Trump.
Which stands in stark contrast to the disgraceful spectacle of the people heckling Elijah Cummings when he was talking about civil rights. The ones who booed Leon Panetta when he was warning of the dangers of Trump with the nuclear codes. And the rest of the ass clowns that walked out when they only got 90% of what they wanted into the platform.

(39,346 posts)He was right after Panetta and the mood was pretty conflicted. Part of it was the luck of the draw. Another national security-oriented speech and we would have gotten deeper in the hole. Instead, Bloomberg delivered a razor-sharp indictment of Trump that brought the house down at times and a convincing endorsement of Hillary too while he was at it.

(56,828 posts)When he realized he was not liberal enough to win a Democratic primary, he became a Republican to run for mayor. Then, when the Republicans moved farther to the right and started rejecting science and blocking any sort of meaningful gun law reform, he became an independent.
Oh, and he's way, way wealthier than Trump.
