Related: About this forumTrump just said Cruz wants to run in 4 years
Is he suggesting that Hillary will win the general? Typically incumbents don't have primary challengers right? Cruz is a class 2 senator so he isn't up for reelection till 2021. Just thought the comment was interesting.

If you are a #NeverTrump politician with Presidential ambitions, 4 years of a Democratic presidency is the best thing that you can get out of this election because you can run on anti-incumbent fervor in 4 years without having to primary a sitting president from your own party.

(10,857 posts)I would put it in the category of, "slip-ups that a competent candidate would never make." Trump's narcissism certainly suggests he meant that Cruz would run against Trump the President. But it's red meat for us and it surely further confuses easily confused conservative voters. The vast majority of them will never know of this, though.
That's what I was thinking. At least frame it like, "if he thinks he has a chance against me in 4 years then he's delusional"

(15,429 posts)Cruz is up for re-election in 2018. Cornyn is up for re-election in 2020.
Cruz basically bet his entire political future on Hillary winning this election big.
