(58,785 posts)than just a broken glass ceiling, even if she holds that record for 8 years. Women's priorities are different from men's, more concerned with health and wellbeing. I want and expect to see real manifestation of that from her administration.

(12,471 posts)but a revolution based only on a person's gender is not much of a revolution to me.
If we had as much in the platform that benefits WE THE PEOPLE, and not them, the corporations, I believe that it would be more of a revolution than just having someone of a different gender than those who have currently been elected.
Yes, gender issues are a step forward with this, but think about Great Britain. Remember their first female Prime Minister?
If not, then look it up, and see that the people were not helped at all. She was the first PM there, and many considered it a revolution, but.....
I only wish that we could have a genderless person run, with values that benefited WE THE PEOPLE, not them, the corporations. This would be a REAL revolution.

no big deal to you?
There have been 66 monarchs of England and Britain spread over a period of 1500 years.
some of them were women - no big deal?
Even though according to the Confucian beliefs having a woman rule would be as unnatural as having a "hen crow like a rooster at daybreak," during the most glorious years of the Tang dynasty a woman did rule, and ruled successfully. She was Wu Zetian, the only female in Chinese history to rule as emperor. To some she was an autocrat, ruthless in her desire to gain and keep power. To others she, as a woman doing a "man's job," merely did what she had to do, and acted no differently than most male emperors of her day. They also note that she managed to effectively rule China during one of its more peaceful and culturally diverse periods.
no big deal?

(14,274 posts)People here are going to celebrate the first woman President of the United States of America. This obviously really bothers you for some strange reason, but that's just too bad. There are plenty of sites where you can denigrate women and their progress out there. DU is not one of them. Your insults and attempts to dampen the enthusiasm are not welcome here.
I think they are in that state of denial, and can't help themselves. It isn't easy being a BOBer these days.

(83,336 posts)Rented planes. Turpentine balls.
I could see planes circling in mid-air. They grew in number and hummed, darted and dipped low. I could hear something like hail falling upon the top of my office building. Down East Archer, I saw the old Mid-Way hotel on fire, burning from its top, and then another and another and another building began to burn from their top, wrote Buck Colbert Franklin (1879-1960).
The Oklahoma lawyer, father of famed African-American historian John Hope Franklin (1915-2009), was describing the attack by hundreds of whites on the thriving black neighborhood known as Greenwood in the booming oil town. Lurid flames roared and belched and licked their forked tongues into the air. Smoke ascended the sky in thick, black volumes and amid it all, the planesnow a dozen or more in numberstill hummed and darted here and there with the agility of natural birds of the air.
The side-walks were literally covered with burning turpentine balls. I knew all too well where they came from, and I knew all too well why every burning building first caught from the top, he continues. I paused and waited for an opportune time to escape. Where oh where is our splendid fire department with its half dozen stations? I asked myself. Is the city in conspiracy with the mob?

(5,700 posts)was in power! I can never forget her visit to Guyana when our then President, Forbes Burnham, rolled out the red carpet for her! She was one powerful leader in Asia and then there was Mrs. Bandarainake from Sri Lanka. Emelda does not count! She did more harm to her country than progress!
