Because he is an idiot that way.

But no matter who he picks, that person will be subservient to him, which will satisfy his ego just fine.

Putting aside the proposition that anything can happen which is a childish world view it is much more likely than not he will lose the general election. He can go out as a loser or a quitter; neither can be an attractive option for a narcissist whose ego is as big as his buildings.

allow him to quit running for president and walk away in defeat after winning the nomination? How does that work?

that would hint that he's not beloved by all. He's not going to quit,he may be maneuvered out, but he won't go quietly and he will do massive damage if his ego takes a hit.

and very knowledgeable person for VP. Yes, that might be what Donald needs, but that's the opposite of what Donald wants. If the HEAVK person is really that smart, then he'd be at the top of the ticket, wouldn't he? Donald's position at the top is proof that he himself is the smartest.

And what HEAVK person wants to sign on for inevitable ridicule and abuse from an idiot like Trump? If they think they can be the puppet-master, they will soon be disabused of that notion. Maybe it's more likely that Donald will run through several VP picks between the convention and the election.
