Clinton says she held back tears before hitting the stage last night, practiced talking about her mom w/o tearing up

Hillary Clinton reflects on the emotion of her historic moment — and rips into Trump

Minutes before her address declaring victory as the Democratic presidential nominee Tuesday evening, Hillary Clinton was worried she might not make it through her prepared remarks without crying.

“I was overwhelmed,” Clinton said in an interview with The Washington Post on Wednesday.

“It just was a sense of momentous historic experience — that I was part of it and it really was hard to actually, you know, make sense of it,” Clinton said, marveling a day later at the sight of thousands of supporters crowded into a Brooklyn warehouse to celebrate.

“I was worried that if, when I went out to speak, just the emotion of the moment would be so intense that I might have trouble getting through the speech itself. So I did have to collect myself and try to get prepared.”

Clinton spoke by telephone a day after becoming the first woman in U.S. history to be the presumptive leader of a major-party presidential ticket. In her victory address on Tuesday, Clinton claimed the mantle in the names of suffragists and others who went before her...

...the article showed a side of Hillary that is most familiar to me.

Even though she's been portrayed by some as political and elitist, I've seen her throughout the years as very down-to-earth and even more empathetic and thoughtful than her 'feel your pain' husband.

She's a very remarkable person and I think that really showed through as she reflected on her historic victory. It was an amazing moment.

I thought of when she was walking onto the stage was "too bad her mother has passed away". Lots of tears on Tuesday night

I didn't know that. That's really sad. I know she was really close with her mother. It's sad she is not here to see this.

I remember crying myself when Obama's grandmother passed away the day before the 2008 election. 36 more hours and she could have lived to see it.

I always wonder what it's like for people who are elected President (or chosen as the nominee) when their parents aren't around to see it. It must make the moment a little bittersweet.
